VCBeat (WeChat ID: vcbeat) has learned that on November 19, 2019, Genesis Drug Discovery & Development (GD3), a member of Genesis Biotechnology Group (GBG), announced the acquisition of New England Discovery Partners (NEDP).
GBG, headquartered in New Jersey, USA, is a biotechnology group formed through the integration of vertically specialized companies, with a focus on diagnostics and drug discovery. GBG leverages the combined expertise and capabilities of its constituent companies to engage in drug discovery, personalized and customized clinical diagnostics, as well as the development, manufacturing, and distribution of biotechnology products.
GD3 is a member of the Genesis Biotechnology Group (GBG) and operates as a preclinical CRO (Contract Research Organization), providing comprehensive services for drug development to ensure coordination across all aspects, from drug discovery through effective development and unique preclinical programs. GD3 covers a broad range of therapeutic areas, including oncology, ophthalmology, inflammation, metabolic diseases, and the microbiome.
GD3’s portfolio includes Invivotek and Pharmoptima (advanced in vivo testing capabilities in biochemistry and molecular biology), Nexus Pharma (dedicated to discovering novel therapies through patient-derived tumor xenograft models), and Venenum Biodesign (expertise in identifying validated small-molecule drug targets across various therapeutic areas).
NEDP is a chemical CRO based in Connecticut, USA, specializing in synthetic organic and medicinal chemistry. The NEDP team comprises innovative drug scientists who have successfully managed and executed drug discovery projects ranging from early lead identification to clinical development. NEDP provides drug discovery services to pharmaceutical, biotechnology, and consumer goods companies, as well as academic institutions, government agencies, and non-profit organizations.
NEDP scientists are recognized for their innovative and creative achievements. Since its inception, NEDP has collaborated on several cutting-edge research projects, including the development of novel small-molecule drugs, securing patent protection from the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO), and receiving multiple STTR grants from the National Institutes of Health (NIH).
NEDP’s team of chemists brings nearly 250 years of combined experience in pharmaceuticals and CRO services, working synergistically with GD3’s existing capabilities in ultra-high-throughput screening (uHTS), computational chemistry, and structural biology. Following this acquisition, the two companies will streamline all stages of the discovery cycle by providing integrated, single-point-of-contact services throughout the entire project lifecycle, thereby accelerating GD3 projects from the discovery phase through to the preclinical stage.
Dr. Eli Mordechai, CEO of GBG, stated, “We are committed to building an industry-leading, fully integrated drug discovery CRO. The acquisition of NEDP is another way to differentiate our capabilities in the field of early-stage drug discovery. We are dedicated to enhancing our portfolio in organic chemistry and medicinal chemistry to better serve our industry partners.”
