VCBeat (WeChat ID: vcbeat) learned from foreign media that on November 2, 2019, local time, AnaPath Services GmbH (AnaPath), a CRO company specializing in histopathology research, announced the acquisition of Envigo CRS SAU (Envigo CRS) to better provide non-clinical safety assessments for the chemical and pharmaceutical industries. The specific financial terms of the acquisition were not disclosed.
Envigo CRS, established in 2015, is a subsidiary of the renowned healthcare CRO company Envigo, based in Barcelona, Spain. It primarily provides non-clinical safety assessments for the chemical and pharmaceutical industries. Envigo is committed to offering a wide range of standard research models to the biopharmaceutical industry, government agencies, academic institutions, and other life sciences organizations. Its core services include comprehensive health monitoring, custom antibody production, biological product services, genetic testing, surgical services, and research model support. The company employs over 1,200 staff across more than 20 locations in North America and Europe.
Upon completion of this transaction, Envigo CRS will be renamed AnaPath Research SAU. In addition, Jorge Zapatero Lorenzo, an executive at Envigo CRS, will be appointed as General Manager of the Research Division at AnaPath. Mr. Zapatero served at Envigo CRS from 1986 to 2014, holding several key positions, including Chief Executive Officer.
AnaPath is an independent, privately held laboratory and a renowned CRO specializing in histopathology services, headquartered in Central Europe. The company’s core business spans toxicologic pathology, neuropathology, inhalation pathology, bone marrow evaluation, immunology, pathology of special laboratory species (fish, amphibians, birds, and invertebrates), hard tissue technology, immunohistochemistry/TCR, fetal pathology, and image analysis.
Dr. Klaus Weber, CEO of AnaPath, is a renowned toxicologic pathologist with 30 years of experience in the field. He previously served as an executive at Harlan (a global leader in healthcare) and joined AnaPath in 2005. Dr. Weber’s appointment has provided AnaPath with robust technical support, enabling the organization to achieve rapid growth in recent years.
This acquisition builds on the two companies’ prior collaboration through RCC / Harlan Laboratories. The alliance not only expands AnaPath’s business but also ensures that the company can deliver comprehensive toxicology and safety assessment services more rapidly and effectively, translating its toxicological expertise into key advances in the field.
