A Small Mouth, A Big Deal. As living standards and self-health awareness rise, “arming oneself down to the teeth” has become a practical necessity.

The oral care industry is divided into two categories: consumables and equipment. Consumables include dental implants, clear aligners for orthodontics, and dental materials, while equipment mainly comprises products such as CBCT (Cone Beam Computed Tomography), chairside digital systems, and intraoral scanners. Data shows that in 2018, the market size of China's oral care industry exceeded RMB 100 billion. Among this, the dental implant market was valued at approximately RMB 30 billion, with a growth rate exceeding 40%.

Furthermore, the National Health and Family Planning Commission’s Seven-Year Plan and the State Council’s Healthy China Action Promotion Committee’s “Outline of Healthy China 2030” propose prioritizing the development of domestically produced dental implants and domestic cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT) systems, while setting new targets for tooth retention rates among individuals aged 60 and above. Driven by strong policy support, the oral healthcare market presents a promising outlook.

Recognizing the immense growth potential of China’s dental industry, Kerunxi Medical has established a Dental Division on the foundation of its existing Orthopedics Division, aiming to capture a share of the dental market.

Kerunxi Medical was founded in Nanjing, Jiangsu Province, in 2004. Its Orthopedics Division has consistently ranked among the top distributors of high-value orthopedic consumables in China. Since its establishment in 2013, the Stomatology Division has built an integrated business loop encompassing R&D, production, sales, and clinical application. Wang Xinzhou, Founder and President of Kerunxi Medical, stated that the company aims to become a leading provider of comprehensive stomatological solutions in China.

China Has the World's Largest Dental Patient Population

From Wang Xinzhou’s perspective, although China’s dental implant market has begun to explode, there are still untapped areas waiting to be explored.

As the rigid demand for dental implants and restorations among the elderly and pediatric populations continues to expand, coupled with growing aesthetic awareness, greater emphasis is being placed on oral health prevention and management. Additionally, digital dentistry has lowered the technical barriers for clinicians while enhancing the patient experience. “The increase in patient volume and the rise in per-capita spending are the primary drivers of market growth,” explained Wang Xinzhou. He noted that after more than a decade of development, patient expenditures have shifted from basic procedures such as extractions and fillings to high-value treatments like implants and orthodontics. Meanwhile, the number of specialized dental hospitals and dental clinics has seen significant growth in recent years.

“The trend of population aging is evident, and patients in this age group generally have lower purchasing power, with a large number of potential users still hidden beneath the tip of the iceberg. As residents’ economic standards improve, their purchasing power and consumption concepts are also rising. ‘The strong entry of domestically produced dental implants will lead to a significant drop in prices. Once a tipping point is reached, a large number of potential patients will become actual consumers, making China’s population the largest customer base globally,’ said Wang Xinzhou.”

Integration of R&D, Production, Sales, and Application

Precision Craftsmanship Minimizes Trauma

The business scope of Kerunxi’s Dental Division covers products and services across the dental implant ecosystem, including digital software design (CAD), digital milling and 3D printing, as well as digital implantology and restoration. Its offerings primarily fall into five major categories: implant systems, restorative accessories, digital products and services, dentures, and oral surgical instruments. Among these, the APEX and CREDIT implant systems stand out for their unique designs, while the comprehensive digital implantology solution has become its core competitive advantage.

The APEX implant system strictly adheres to biological principles to optimize alveolar ridge preservation performance, while maintaining a simplified soft tissue contouring design in its transgingival profile. Furthermore, Kerunxi Medical has adopted a cross-lock connection design to enhance fit precision and implant strength. The implant surface utilizes the globally prevalent SLA (Sandblasted, Large-grit, Acid-etched) treatment process, which ensures insertion stability across various bone structures and promotes tight osseointegration between the implant and the alveolar bone.

The CREDIT implant system features a tapered cylindrical design. Its reverse taper and micro-thread design reduce stress on the cortical bone, maximize soft tissue and alveolar bone volume, and minimize marginal bone resorption. Furthermore, the reverse-cutting grooves and apical cutting blades enable experienced clinicians to adjust implant positioning for optimal prosthetic orientation, with particularly pronounced benefits in post-extraction sites.

Personalized Surgical Instrument Customization Service

Wang Xinzhou told VCBeat that, leveraging advanced CNC machining processes and proprietary surface treatment methods, along with robust design and manufacturing capabilities, Kerunxi Medical can provide personalized instrument customization services for dentists, thereby rapidly transforming knowledge into productivity.

In collaboration with clinical professors from multiple renowned dental hospitals in China, Kerunxi Medical conducted clinical research on dentists’ usage habits regarding implant-specific instruments, aiming to better align its implant system products with the operational preferences of Chinese clinicians and the anatomical characteristics of Chinese patients.

Two Major Production Bases

Notably, Kerunxi Medical’s Dental Division has established two full-industry-chain production bases for dental implants in Nanjing and Zhengzhou, both of which have obtained ISO 13485 quality management system certification and CE product certification. Among them, the newly developed Credit implant system from the Nanjing production base has entered the clinical validation phase. Currently, a third production base and two dental clinics are under construction.

A Diverse Product Line Relies on a Professional Team

Kerunxi Medical is a giant vessel navigating the healthcare industry, with Wang Xinzhou serving as the helmsman steering its course. With over two decades of deep expertise in the medical device sector, Mr. Wang was named the annual sales champion at Swiss company Prothes for five consecutive years. Under his leadership, the Orthopedics Division has also been recognized as the top sales performer and best distributor in the Asia-Pacific region for Smith & Nephew for many consecutive years.

Currently, the Dental Division team of Kerunxi Medical primarily consists of five components: the management team, R&D team, marketing team, regulatory affairs team, and expert panel. “The technical development team, comprising over 20 members with an average age between 30 and 37, demonstrates strong learning agility and creative capabilities,” introduced Wang Xinzhou. After years of dedicated efforts, the Dental Division has obtained two Class III medical device registration certificates, four Class II registration certificates, and more than 50 Class I filing certificates. It has also been granted 10 invention patents and 43 utility model patents.

Notably, Kerunxi Medical’s expert team includes consultants specializing in dental technology and experts in product surface treatment technology, boasting extensive industry experience in the field of dentistry and implant surface design.

Regarding future development plans, Wang Xinzhou noted that since the implementation of healthcare reform measures for cost control and the “4+7” volume-based procurement program, hospital revenues have been strictly regulated. As a result, public medical institutions will prioritize departments with inelastic demand, such as dentistry, as key areas for development. Kerunxi Medical is actively joining provincial centralized procurement platforms to expand its market presence and enhance the influence of its products.

Wang Xinzhou revealed that Kerunxi Medical’s Dental Division aims to establish flagship dental clinics in key first-tier cities. These clinics will not only serve as direct sales channels for its own products but also provide a platform for training and hands-on practice for its physician clients. In terms of product strategy, Kerunxi Medical will align with market trends by strengthening the development of digital products and enhancing its capability to deliver technical service solutions, thereby offering value-added services of interest to clinicians. To support these initiatives, Kerunxi Medical is undertaking a new round of financing. Interested institutions may contact the financing assistant, Xiao Yun, at DongMai_Investent.
