Medical Imaging Parts Supplier
VCBeat (WeChat ID: vcbeat) learned via Business Wire that on December 2, 2019, medical device company DirectMed Parts & Service (DirectMed) announced the acquisition of Medical Systems Technologies (MST). Financial terms of the transaction were not disclosed.
Founded in 1997 and headquartered in California, USA, DirectMed is a leading provider of medical imaging parts and services. As the most trusted and highly capable company in its field, DirectMed specializes in CT and MRI components and services. By working directly with engineers and service professionals, the company ensures the rapid delivery of high-quality parts to customer sites, thereby minimizing downtime for critical equipment.
DirectMed is owned by Mercury Partners, a private investment firm dedicated to acquiring U.S. companies in the business services and healthcare services sectors with revenues between $10 million and $50 million.
MST, based in Longmont, Colorado, USA, is a company specializing in components for medical imaging equipment. It provides professional component-level repair and testing services for magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and computed tomography (CT) systems, offering repairs for all major medical imaging OEM products, including those from GE, Philips, Siemens, Hitachi, and Toshiba.
The company was founded by Bruce Smith, an electrical engineer with 40 years of experience in medical imaging who spent 16 years at GE Healthcare. Prior to founding MST, Bruce served as Vice President at Sonora Medical Systems. He has extensive expertise in process control, process improvement, design of experiments, Lean, and Six Sigma.
Both DirectMed and MST have obtained ISO 13485:2016 certification and comply with the quality management system requirements of ISO 13485:2016, which meets the most stringent regulations in the medical device market.
Brad de Koning, CEO of DirectMed, stated, “Throughout our 10-year partnership, we have entrusted MST with our most complex electronic repairs. This acquisition accelerates our plan to vertically integrate and gain control over the repair functions and quality metrics for additional critical components. DirectMed will rebrand the MST business, operate its Colorado facility, retain the existing staff, and appoint Bruce Smith as our Senior Engineer.”
“DirectMed’s parts and services are an ideal fit for medical system technology,” said Bruce Smith, Senior Engineer at MST. “DirectMed has made concerted efforts to outsource more imaging component repair capabilities, making the acquisition of MST a natural choice. MST will greatly benefit from DirectMed’s extensive customer base, financial and operational resources, and its commitment to providing parts and services for the latest technologies.”
Tanner LoRusso, Vice President of Sales at DirectMed, added, “We perform component-level repairs on high-failure parts for MRI, CT, and PET/CT systems manufactured by GE, Siemens, Philips, and Toshiba, including RF components, gradient amplifiers, power supplies, and auxiliary electronics. We also provide 24/7 technical support to end customers, field service engineers, and biomedical engineers.”
