IT House, January 24th, by reporter — Yesterday (January 22nd), Fortune published a blog post reporting that after winning the 2024 Nobel Prize in Chemistry with AlphaFold 2, Demis Hassabis, the founder of Google DeepMind, is now aiming for an even bigger goal through his spin-off company, Isomorphic Labs:Using AI to "solve" human diseases.

ITHome cited a blog post introducing that traditional drug discovery is likened to "finding a needle in a haystack" within the industry, costing billions of dollars and having a failure rate as high as 90%. Chemists often spend their entire careers without successfully bringing a single drug to market.

To change this situation, Isomorphic Labs has adopted a "Structure-first" strategy. Based on the core technology of AlphaFold, the company has built an AI engine capable of predicting molecular-level interactions between drugs and target molecules.

Hassabis's goal is to transform drug discovery from a serendipitous, artisanal process into a precise engineering discipline, akin to aircraft design, ultimately achieving the scaled output of dozens of new drugs each year.

Isomorphic Labs is currently focusing its efforts on tackling "undruggable" targets in areas such as pancreatic cancer and lung cancer, where traditional methods fall short.

Isomorphic Labs' potential has been highly recognized by the capital market. The company completed a $600 million (Note: approximately 4.186 billion yuan at the current exchange rate) Series A financing round in March 2025, led by Thrive Capital with participation from Google Ventures.

Although the specific valuation has not been announced, its commercialization pace has significantly accelerated: not only has it reached a collaboration with Eli Lilly, but it also expanded its strategic partnership with Novartis in 2025.
