Developer of Electronic Patient Care Software
VCBeat (WeChat ID: vcbeat) learned from foreign media that on November 10, 2019, local time, ESO, a leading data and software company, announced the acquisition of Clinical Data Management (CDM), a trauma registry software services provider, to expand its product portfolio in the trauma registry market. Financial terms of the transaction were not disclosed.
Founded in 2004 and headquartered in Texas, USA, ESO is dedicated to improving community health and safety through the power of data. The company provides software and data solutions to more than 13,000 fire departments, emergency medical services (EMS) agencies, and hospitals across the United States, including its industry-leading ESO Electronic Health Record (EHR), ESO Health Data Exchange (HDE) service, the first-of-its-kind healthcare interoperability platform, Fire Department Records Management System (RMS), and ambulance revenue billing software.
As an innovative leader in trauma registry software, CDM has a 30-year history. Its registry system can verify the accuracy of hospital data, determine whether such data meets state or regional data collection requirements, and perform product status monitoring as well as performance improvement tracking and maintenance. In addition to the company’s flagship product, TraumaBase, ESO will also acquire all of CDM’s trauma-related software products, including its trauma registries and associated customers.
Previously, ESO completed six rounds of financing totaling $39.6 million. According to Crunchbase data, its previous round was an undisclosed series amounting to $15.5 million, completed in October 2017. Concurrently with the acquisition of CDM, ESO also announced the acquisitions of two other peer companies, Digital Innovation and Lancet. By integrating the operations of these three companies with its industry-leading ESO EHR and ESO HDE products, ESO will possess the largest trauma registry portfolio in the United States, thereby providing more comprehensive data services to EMS agencies and hospitals. Including these three companies, ESO has completed a total of six organizational acquisitions.
ESO President and CEO Chris Dillie stated, “Similar to the acquisitions of Digital Innovation and Lancet, the acquisition of EDM provides us with another strong entry point into the trauma registry market. EDM is a pioneer in developing trauma registry software technology. We believe that integrating CDM’s products with our product suite will provide hospitals and EMS agencies with more comprehensive information, thereby increasing opportunities for improvements in patient care.”
Jody Summers, President of CDM, stated, “Data and analytics are a powerful force driving development across the entire healthcare sector. ESO understands the value of data and places greater emphasis on patient safety. We are delighted to join the ESO family and leverage our technological innovations to continue driving transformation in the industry.”
