VCBeat (WeChat ID: vcbeat) learned from foreign media that on December 16, 2019, Immuneering completed a $17 million Series A financing round. The round was led by Boxcar PMJ LLC, with Boxcar Founding Partner Joseph Kekst joining Immuneering’s Board of Directors and Boxcar Founding Partner Peter Feinberg joining as an observer.
Immuneering, founded in 2008 and headquartered on the East Coast of New England, is a novel drug developer. Leveraging its decade-long leadership in bioinformatics, Immuneering is dedicated to discovering new drugs that cannot be identified through traditional methods. By employing its Disease Elimination Technology (DCT), Immuneering develops therapeutics capable of reversing disease signals across multiple relevant genes. The company is currently advancing candidate drugs for the treatment of conditions refractory to conventional therapies, such as cancer cachexia. Cancer cachexia is a complex syndrome frequently observed in cancer patients, primarily characterized by weight loss, anorexia, muscle atrophy, anemia, and edema. Additionally, Immuneering provides specialized computational biology services to leading pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies.
The funding will be used to advance the development of Immuneering’s oncology drugs targeting cancer cachexia, based on its proprietary Disease Clearance Technology (DCT) platform. The financing will also support further development of Immuneering’s technology platform, launch new drug programs in other disease areas, and drive growth in its computational biology services business.
Dr. Ben Zeskind, Co-founder and CEO of Immuneering, stated, “With this financing, Immuneering is poised to accelerate its progress in rapidly identifying and developing a pipeline of important drug candidates. Visionary investors have recognized that Immuneering’s technology helps overcome the limitations of traditional drug development approaches, enabling the creation of therapies for challenging diseases to meet patient needs.”
Joseph Kekst of Boxcar stated, “Leveraging advanced bioinformatics, Immuneering is developing a pipeline of novel drugs with significant clinical importance. Immuneering boasts the industry’s leading computational biology services, and its disease-eradication technology is poised to have a profound impact on drug development across the sector. Boxcar is highly interested in this opportunity.”
