Supplier of ECG and Electrophysiology Solutions

The COVID-19 pandemic has made this year’s Spring Festival unlike any before. There were no neighborhood visits or family gatherings; instead, there was unity and collective effort to combat the epidemic.

Like other companies fighting the epidemic, Nalong is also contributing to this nationwide campaign through its own efforts. As a professional supplier of ECG informatization solutions, Nalong developed the "Remote ECG Diagnosis Solution for Isolation Wards" in the early stages of the outbreak. By providing integrated ECG examination and diagnostic services, it broke down spatial barriers between examination and diagnosis sites, effectively preventing viral transmission among patients, examining physicians, and ECG diagnostic specialists, thereby reducing the risk of cross-infection.

On February 5, the wards of the Henan version of “Xiaotangshan Hospital” were inspected and accepted for delivery. Also delivered was Nalong’s “Remote ECG Diagnosis Solution for Isolation Wards.” In addition to the Henan “Xiaotangshan Hospital,” this solution has been adopted by other medical institutions, including “Xiaotangshan Hospitals” in Jiangsu and Ningxia, Yunnan Provincial Infectious Disease Hospital, Wuhan Jinyintan Hospital, Wuhan Pulmonary Hospital, and Huanggang Central Hospital.

Zhong Yuqiu, CEO of Nalong, stated, “Following the outbreak of the pandemic, Nalong convened relevant experts for discussion and analysis. Ultimately, we identified two major pain points in electrocardiogram (ECG) examinations: first, ensuring rapid deployment and ease of operation for equipment within isolation wards; second, ECG physicians are unable to enter isolation wards, and there is a shortage of ECG physicians within hospitals.”

To address these two pain points, Nalong has also proposed solutions. First, Nalong provides ECG machines that are pre-configured before leaving the factory and come with built-in 4G connectivity. “Our two engineers completed the installation of multiple devices within a single day. Currently, these devices have been officially put into use in departments such as isolation observation rooms and intensive care units (ICUs).”

Nalong’s ECG machines feature 4G connectivity, enabling real-time transmission of electrocardiogram data to the cloud platform. This facilitates remote diagnosis by physicians and streamlines on-site workflows. Furthermore, once ECG data is transmitted in real time to the cloud, specialists from hospitals in cities such as Yinchuan can perform remote diagnoses. By leveraging the cloud platform and remote diagnosis centers, Nalong has effectively augmented frontline medical staff with remote ECG physicians, thereby optimizing the utilization of healthcare resources.

Nalong, established in 2002, has evolved over the years into a specialized provider of ECG solutions for healthcare informatization. Zhong Yuqiu stated, “Since its inception, Nalong has focused on the ECG industry. Therefore, our solutions encompass software systems, hardware products, platforms, service frameworks, and more. Compared with traditional ECG solutions, we emphasize new application scenarios enabled by emerging technologies, such as leveraging artificial intelligence to enhance diagnostic efficiency and utilizing platforms to facilitate data sharing.”

Software and Hardware in Tandem: Building an ECG Industry Ecosystem

To date, Nalong has more than four categories and twelve models of ECG products certified by the CFDA, holding 58 computer software copyrights, six invention patents, and thirteen design patents.

Compared with conventional ECG devices, its full-featured digital electrocardiographs and multi-channel ECG acquisition instruments offer advantages such as portability, wireless connectivity, smart terminal integration, and ease of upgrade. Due to their portability, these products have a wide range of application scenarios and can be used in hospital wards, community health service centers, emergency care, and house calls.

On the other hand, multi-channel ECG acquisition devices can meet various examination requirements, including 12-lead, 15-lead, and 18-lead configurations. Meanwhile, full-featured digital electrocardiographs offer functions such as ECG data acquisition, automatic analysis, and online consultation. They can also automatically retrieve and complete the waveform from the five seconds prior to acquisition, thereby preventing the omission of sporadic arrhythmias.

Nalong is not only strengthening its hardware product offerings but also enhancing the ECG product industry chain to build a comprehensive ECG ecosystem. An indispensable component of this ecosystem is the ECG network system.

Nalong’s hospital-wide ECG network system, hospital-wide electrophysiology network system, and regional ECG network system facilitate data circulation and sharing within hospitals, across departments, and between hospitals.

For example, the hospital-wide ECG network system archives examination data generated by ECG and other devices, along with related patient information, in a unified data format. It enables data sharing and interaction with other systems through networks and interfaces. In terms of application scenarios, taking ward examinations as an example, physicians can directly view patients' physiological data and electronic medical records through this system. Additionally, the system offers functions such as lead error correction, drug trial support, ECG data analysis and measurement, missed diagnosis management, and critical value management.

Another example is the regional ECG network system, which enables centralized management and oversight of ECG examinations across all medical institutions within a region. Through remote technical support, it extends high-quality ECG medical resources from tertiary hospitals to primary care facilities.

Zhong Yuqiu introduced, “The regional ECG network system achieves centralized data management, breaking through spatial and temporal constraints to enable regional data sharing and remote reporting. Meanwhile, by analyzing examination and diagnostic data, it facilitates quality monitoring, early warning, and other management functions for ECG examinations within the region.”

Currently, Nalong has provided relevant services to more than 500 provincial and municipal Health and Family Planning Commissions, tertiary hospitals, and over 8,000 primary healthcare institutions. Zhong Yuqiu stated, “Our ability to gain recognition stems from two key factors: first, the high quality of Nalong’s products, and second, our efficient service, which enables us to respond promptly to customer needs.”

It is reported that Nalong has obtained ISO 9001 and ISO 13485 quality management system certifications, intellectual property management system certification, and CMMI Level 3 certification for software maturity. In addition to its ECG network system, Nalong has also developed chest pain and stroke management systems.

Zhong Yuqiu introduced, “At this stage, Nalong focuses on the full-process management of cardiovascular patients. Relying on its platform, Nalong implements hardware products and extends its reach through Chest Pain Centers (single-disease focus), restructuring examination, diagnosis, and service workflows to achieve comprehensive management across pre-hospital, in-hospital, and post-discharge stages. In summary, Nalong’s product ecosystem is designed around every link in the full-process management of cardiovascular patients.”

Efficient R&D: The Team Is the Core Competitiveness

In 2010, Nalong invested RMB 10 million to establish a Research and Development Department dedicated to the development of intelligent ECG and electrophysiological remote monitoring terminals, the promotion of standards for ECG data storage and transmission, the construction of ECG databases, and the application of smart terminals and 3G technology in medical services. The establishment of the R&D Department accelerated Nalong’s progress.

In 2010, Nalong launched its hospital-wide ECG and electrophysiology network system software product;

In 2011, launched an ECG technology platform based on regional healthcare;

In 2013, the company developed a digital electrocardiograph and launched portable and mobile ECG monitors and ECG acquisition devices;

In 2014, regional platform applications based on iOS and Android systems were launched, along with ECG waveform viewing via WeChat sharing;

In 2015, it developed ladder diagrams and clinical automated diagnostic algorithms, achieved automated ECG diagnosis, launched personal wearable ECG monitoring devices, and promoted regional clinical applications of ECG based on 4G networks.

This achievement would not have been possible without the excellent team at Nalong. Zhong Yuqiu introduced, “Currently, Nalong has more than 100 R&D personnel, including a team of PhDs in the medical field and an experienced team of graduate students. In addition, Nalong also has a team of advisors and has collaborated with universities and medical institutions on various research projects.”

Nalong’s efficient marketing and engineering teams have laid a solid foundation for its steady growth. Zhong Yuqiu stated, “Our marketing team is primarily focused on resolving users’ issues and can rapidly respond to customer needs.”

Unlike other companies, Nalong has maintained a highly stable growth pace. “Our team shares a common philosophy: the healthcare sector is unlike the fast-moving consumer goods (FMCG) industry and cannot sustain explosive growth. Otherwise, the team would struggle to serve an unexpectedly large customer base, which would damage Nalong’s reputation. Therefore, we have consistently kept our growth rate at around 30%. Through steady accumulation over time, Nalong is certain to grow stronger and larger.”

Nalong has been advancing steadily, step by step, and has already gained market recognition. In the future, Nalong will vigorously promote its consumer-facing ECG products, which could drive explosive growth for the company.

Regarding the consumer market for ECG testing, Zhong Yuqiu stated: “Currently, the market is still in its early stages. It will take some time before it experiences explosive growth. We intend to vigorously promote our products once the market has matured somewhat. Furthermore, I believe that as a medical device, it must deliver clinical value. To generate such value, integration with hospital diagnostic systems is essential. Only after achieving this connectivity with hospitals can the consumer market grow rapidly.”

Regarding future business layout, Nalong will base its operations on medical institutions' diagnosis and treatment, focusing on home monitoring, AI support, ECG diagnostic service teams, and a private doctor platform for cardiovascular patients, providing more personalized services centered around patients.

Zhong Yuqiu concluded, “Currently, Nalong’s core users are medical institutions and physicians; in the future, its primary service recipients will be cardiovascular patients.”
