VCBeat has learned that on February 19, 2020, Beijing Kunlun Yiyun Technology Co., Ltd. (brand name: Keya Medical), the first company in China to obtain a Class III medical device registration certificate for artificial intelligence and a leader in the development and research of coronary AI technology, announced thatSecured hundreds of millions in strategic financing, led by Kunlun Tech Group and IDG Capital, with co-investment from Shanghai Guofang Fund of Funds, Yahui Capital, and others. Following this round, Keya Medical will further solidify its market presence in the field of AI-powered medical imaging, providing significant momentum for subsequent product R&D and industry expansion.

Kea Medical has garnered strong recognition from the capital market, primarily due to its advantages across three dimensions: the practical application value of its products, innovative technological strengths, and its status as the only enterprise in China currently holding dual certifications for its products from both the China National Medical Products Administration (NMPA) and the European Union’s CE mark.

Practical Application Value of the Product

“DeepVessel Fraction,” a non-invasive CT-FFR product developed by Keya Medical, leverages multiple proprietary deep learning technologies. By utilizing only the patient’s CTA images, it eliminates the need for vasodilators or pressure wires, enabling efficient and precise calculation of FFR values at various points along the entire coronary artery tree. It rapidly provides quantitative results required for clinical decision-making, offering a novel non-invasive approach to functional ischemia assessment in patients with suspected coronary heart disease (CHD). In doing so, it serves as a “gatekeeper” for the cardiac catheterization laboratory, assisting physicians in optimizing treatment strategies and pathways for CHD.

Innovative Technological Advantages

DeepVessel FFR combines the technical advantages of CTA and FFR, leveraging DeepVessel and DeepFFR technologies that integrate hemodynamics with deep neural networks. Based on extensive multi-source data from coronary artery lesions, it performs deep learning on functional and anatomical data across diverse cases to intelligently optimize medical image processing, vessel segmentation and reconstruction, and fractional flow reserve (FFR) calculation. By completing complex computational processes during the preliminary algorithm development phase, the system enables rapid and efficient analysis for new cases during clinical application. Compared to traditional flow field simulation techniques, which require hours of computation, DeepVessel FFR reduces result generation time from 3–8 hours to under 10 minutes, significantly shorter than the turnaround times for invasive testing and similar foreign products. With a detection accuracy exceeding 90%, it ranks among the world’s leading solutions.

Nationally Recognized Product Qualifications

In January 2020, Keya Medical’s independently developed innovative CT-FFR product, the “Coronary Flow Fractional Reserve Calculation Software” (trade name: DeepVessel FFR®), achieved a milestone by becoming the first AI-based medical product in China to obtain a Class III medical device registration certificate from the National Medical Products Administration (NMPA).

The National Medical Products Administration (NMPA) further characterized the product with the twelve-word description: “demonstrating significant economic and social benefits.” Additionally, DeepVessel FFR® obtained EU CE certification in August 2018, becoming the first medical device in China to receive a CE certificate based on deep neural network technology, and has been successfully deployed in more than ten overseas countries, including those in Europe and Southeast Asia.

It is also reported that following the outbreak of the novel coronavirus pneumonia (COVID-19) epidemic, Keya Medical leveraged its extensive expertise in intelligent lesion detection, segmentation, and classification to better support medical personnel on the front lines of epidemic prevention and control. The company rapidly deployed its self-developed “Intelligent Auxiliary Diagnosis System for COVID-19” to radiology departments at the forefront of the response, donating the system to numerous hospitals in Hubei, Guangdong, Sichuan, Shandong, and other regions. By performing fully automated intelligent analysis of lung CT scans, the software provides rapid auxiliary screening results for COVID-19, significantly improving diagnostic efficiency while ensuring accuracy.
