【Pharmaceutical Network Enterprise NewsIn recent years, a large number of medical device companies have been actively carrying out acquisition activities aimed at strengthening core sectors, securing positions in emerging fields, and building technological barriers. Among them, Boston Scientific, a global leader in interventional devices, has been making frequent moves in core sectors such as cardiovascular, neurointerventional, urology, and neuromodulation. Since 2025, Boston Scientific has completed four major transactions, with deal sizes ranging from hundreds of millions to tens of billions of dollars, totaling over 16 billion dollars.

Specifically, according to foreign media reports, Boston Scientific has recently completed the acquisition of Nalu Medical. This transaction began on October 17, 2025, when Boston Scientific announced that it had signed a definitive agreement to acquire Nalu Medical for approximately $533 million in cash for the remaining equity.

Nalu Medical is a medical device company focused on spinal cord stimulation and peripheral nerve stimulation technologies. Its core product, the Nalu Neurostimulation System, aims to provide treatment for adult patients with severe intractable peripheral neuropathic chronic pain in areas such as the shoulder, lower back, and knee through Peripheral Nerve Stimulation (PNS) technology.

This is not the first collaboration between the two parties. In 2017, Boston Scientific strategically invested in Nalu and has been closely monitoring its R&D and clinical progress. Following this acquisition, Nalu will be integrated into Boston Scientific's portfolio, becoming part of its Neuromodulation division.

On January 15, 2026, Boston Scientific announced that it would acquire Penumbra, a star company in the field of neurointervention, for $14.5 billion (approximately RMB 101 billion).

Through this acquisition, Boston Scientific will complete the key piece of the neurointervention puzzle and integrate Penumbra's technology with its existing structural heart disease, electrophysiology,RobotDeep integration of platforms such as assisted surgery to create a minimally invasive treatment ecosystem that covers the "heart-brain-vessel" integration. In addition, Penumbra's strong emergency medicine channels and clinical reputation can also help Boston Scientific further penetrate key scenarios such as hospital emergency departments and stroke centers.

On September 9, 2025, Boston Scientific and medical technology company Elutia announced a deal regarding EluPro and the CanGaroo drug-eluting biological envelope, with a total transaction value of $88 million (approximately RMB 630 million).

EluPro, as an antibiotic-eluting biological sheath loaded with rifampicin and minocycline, can prevent bacterial colonization and promote the regeneration of healthy vascularized tissue. It has been approved by the FDA for marketing to prevent postoperative complications in patients with implanted cardiac devices and can also be used in pain management, epilepsy, and other fields. Boston Scientific has previously collaborated with Elutia to distribute biological sheath products, and this acquisition will help it further compete with Medtronic in the cardiac rhythm management field.

On March 24, 2025, Boston Scientific announced that it had agreed to acquire the remaining shares of SoniVie, a private medical device company, for an initial price of $360 million, in order to expand its product portfolio in interventional cardiology therapies. SoniVie has developed the TIVUS intravascular ultrasound system, an experimental technology designed to treat various hypertensive disorders by performing denervation of perivascular nerves, including renal artery denervation (RDN) for hypertension.

News on January 8, 2025: Boston Scientific announced an agreement to acquire Bolt Medical, the developer of IVL. Bolt Medical focuses on designing and developing intravascular lithotripsy with a laser-based energy platform for the treatment of coronary and peripheral artery diseases. The transaction includes an upfront payment of approximately $443 million for the 74% equity not yet owned, as well as up to $221 million upon reaching specific regulatory milestones, totaling $664 million (approximately 4.8 billion RMB).

Overall, Boston Scientific's acquisitions over the past year have not been blind expansions. By locking in a leading position in neurointervention through a multi-billion-dollar acquisition and filling technological gaps via targeted acquisitions, it is gradually forming four growth pillars: "cardiovascular + neurointervention + neuromodulation + urology." Notably, these frequent acquisitions indicate that top players in the medical industry have entered a new cycle of "integration-driven growth." In the future, small yet technologically advanced targets are expected to gain increasing favor.
