On June 29, 2020, Miao Health and Baidu officially entered into a strategic partnership agreement. The two parties will explore the integration of healthcare services with advanced information technologies such as artificial intelligence, the Internet of Things (IoT), and big data. They will conduct in-depth collaboration in the field of chronic disease management to jointly develop an intelligent family doctor solution based on the Xiaodu Zaijia smart speaker, providing multidimensional services and products—including health management, intelligent triage, and medication reminders—to a broad population of patients with chronic diseases.

According to reports, following its collaboration with Baidu, Miao Health will further integrate SDK data interfaces with Xiaodu Smart Speakers by opening up its “Miao+” IoT health big data platform, enabling one-click connectivity to over 300 smart health monitoring devices and making home-based testing more convenient for users. Furthermore, the two parties will engage in complementary ecosystem cooperation. Based on users’ individual health status, an “AI Health Manager” or a team of professional physicians will provide remote consultations and online follow-ups for patients with chronic diseases. They will develop personalized health management services and health protection products tailored to individual needs, effectively improving service accessibility, supporting primary care family physician services, and empowering residents in chronic disease management.

Huang Yan, General Manager of Baidu Smart Healthcare, stated at the signing ceremony that China has over 300 million patients with chronic diseases, and related medical expenses have accounted for 70% of total health expenditures. Chronic disease management has been elevated to a national strategy. Furthermore, the effectiveness of chronic disease control and management directly determines patients’ quality of life and even their dignity in survival, exerting a profound impact on every patient and every family. Scientific and effective chronic disease management can not only help patients return to a high-quality life but also effectively reduce medical expenditures.

Kong Fei, CEO of Miao Health, stated that as a high-frequency interaction interface, smart speakers—following the integration and sharing of health data—not only enable family doctors to break through physical spatial constraints and directly participate in remote chronic disease management, but also facilitate collaboration with commercial health insurance providers based on dynamic patient conditions, thereby providing robust support for insurers’ product development. Further mining of these big health data, when linked with health management services, can also assist pharmaceutical companies in proactively recruiting patients and conducting follow-up tracking, thus opening up incremental markets.

It is evident that the collaboration between Miao Health and Baidu Smart Healthcare aims to realize the vision of making healthcare accessible to all. In the future, the two parties will further integrate smart healthcare scenarios, combine pharmaceutical company resources with health management solutions, develop interactive and personalized health insurance products, participate in the construction of medical-care integration projects such as Healthy Cities and smart elderly care, and continue to drive the launch and commercial implementation of new products.
