On July 1, digital health platform WeDoctor Group entered into a strategic partnership with Hansoh Pharma, a leading domestic pharmaceutical company. The two parties will focus on the prevention, treatment, and management of chronic diseases, jointly promote innovation in digital healthcare, and provide patients with advanced diagnostic and therapeutic technologies as well as treatment regimens.

Public data show that in China, deaths attributable to chronic diseases, represented by cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases and chronic respiratory diseases, have accounted for 88% of all deaths, with the resulting disease burden comprising more than 70% of the total disease burden, posing a serious threat to public health. To promote the shift from a disease-treatment-centered approach to a people’s-health-centered approach, and to strive to ensure that the population remains disease-free or experiences fewer illnesses, the State Council issued the Healthy China Action (2019–2030), which launches prevention and control initiatives targeting multiple chronic diseases.

Leveraging digital and intelligent tools to implement whole-course management of chronic diseases and reduce the incidence of complications has become one of the key measures for the comprehensive implementation of the “Healthy China 2030” strategy.

It is reported that Hanhui Pharmaceuticals is one of the top 40 pharmaceutical companies in China by revenue, achieving RMB 4.299 billion in revenue in 2019. The company provides full industry chain services covering drug and medical device registration, importation, distribution, and promotion, and operates a manufacturing platform compliant with FDA certification standards.

Hu Zhiqiang, Chief Operating Officer of Hansoh Pharma, stated that this collaboration focuses on the supply side of chronic disease services, particularly in respiratory and cardiovascular care. Leveraging its extensive experience in the pharmaceutical industry, Hansoh will join forces with WeDoctor to establish a chronic disease prevention, management, and treatment service system featuring “online-offline integration and interoperability among medicine, healthcare, and insurance,” thereby providing patients with safe and professional health management services.

Since its establishment in 2010, WeDoctor has built “Guahao.com,” the largest appointment-based diagnosis and treatment platform in China, and “Wuzhen Internet Hospital,” the country’s first internet hospital, driving the digital transformation of traditional healthcare services. Currently, WeDoctor’s core business spans medical care, pharmaceuticals, medical testing, and health insurance, making it the only digital health platform in the industry to cover the entire “Internet + Healthcare” value chain. As of March 2020, WeDoctor operated 12 physical medical institutions and 22 internet hospitals, connecting more than 7,200 hospitals, over 240,000 physicians, and more than 200 million users across China.

Ding Haihuan, Senior Vice President of WeDoctor, stated that WeDoctor will continue to leverage its professional advantages as a digital health platform. Through digital innovation and empowerment, the company will collaborate with Hansoh Pharma to introduce the most advanced treatment solutions, better meeting the Chinese public’s needs for healthy living.
