Provider of Full-Stack Intelligent Healthcare Product Solutions

The development of the artificial intelligence industry is profoundly transforming cities, nations, and even the world.

In 2017, the State Council issued the Development Plan for New-Generation Artificial Intelligence. In the same year, the Shanghai Municipal People’s Government released the Implementation Opinions on Promoting the Development of New-Generation Artificial Intelligence in the City, establishing “building a highland for artificial intelligence” as a city-level strategy. In 2018, Shanghai took the lead in issuing the Implementation Plan for the Construction of AI Application Scenarios. In 2019, the second batch of AI application scenarios was announced. Over these three years, the artificial intelligence industry has moved beyond the “showcase” and entered the “frontlines” across various industrial sectors.

On July 9, the 2020 World Artificial Intelligence Conference Cloud Summit was held at the Shanghai Expo Center. As a Shanghai-based AI unicorn, YITU has participated in the World Artificial Intelligence Conference for three consecutive years. Its care.ai full-stack AI solution made another appearance, drawing attention to its progress in multiple fields, including clinical diagnosis and treatment, health management, epidemic prevention and control, pharmaceutical R&D, urban data platform construction, and public health decision support.

Dr. Zhu Long, Founder and CEO of YITU Technology, was invited to attend the plenary session of the Industry Development Forum, where he shared his insights on AI development.

Dr. Zhu Long believes that with a 10,000-fold increase in chip computing power, a million-fold improvement in algorithmic capabilities, a 10,000-fold growth in model parameters, and a 10,000-fold rise in training compute, the revolution in AI infrastructure will usher in a new era of machine civilization driven by AI. Within the next decade, low-level perceptual intelligence is expected to leap forward to high-level decision-making intelligence, achieving significant advancements in capabilities such as vision, hearing, understanding, planning, and control.

AI Enters the "Post-Moore's Law Era"

Dr. Zhu Long cited intelligent medicine as an example: Currently, AI can extract medical attributes and features by analyzing medical images, thereby assisting physicians in diagnosis. A case in point is the industry’s first intelligent evaluation system for COVID-19, developed by YITU during the pandemic. In the future, AI will advance toward higher-order cognitive intelligence by further developing technologies such as knowledge graphs, which map relationships among millions of nodes.

Dr. Zhu Long predicts: The next decade will be the “super-Moore’s law era” for AI computing power.

On one hand, chip process technology continues to break through from 7nm and 5nm to 3nm; on the other hand, by coupling artificial intelligence algorithms with computing power in chip design, the computational density of intelligent chips will surpass the constraints of Moore’s Law, thereby delivering more cost-effective intelligent computing power and making computing power ubiquitous. The integration of 5G transmission technology, with its greater bandwidth and lower latency, will further enable intelligence that is real-time, perceptible, and pervasive.

As computing power and data in the real world accumulate exponentially, artificial intelligence is poised to break through to higher-order intelligence characterized by high uncertainty, multi-task integration, and complex reasoning, promising significant leaps in capabilities such as vision, hearing, understanding, planning, and control.

YITU’s “AI Battle Against the Epidemic”

The COVID-19 pandemic in 2020 was the biggest “black swan” event in recent years, yet under the wings of this “black swan,” the Chinese people delivered a near-perfect response. On this report card, one fill-in-the-blank answer reads: “AI-powered epidemic control.”

To date, YITU’s Intelligent Evaluation System for Chest CT in COVID-19, the “Xiao Yi Doctor” for COVID-19 Prevention and Control, and the Regional Intelligent Infectious Disease Prevention and Control Solution have been deployed in more than 200 institutions across China, and have been applied in overseas regions including Europe, South America, the Middle East, and Southeast Asia.

The results of the “Evaluation of AI-Based Imaging Auxiliary Diagnostic Products for Pneumonia,” guided by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) and hosted by the China Academy of Information and Communications Technology, the Artificial Intelligence Industry Alliance, and the MIIT Key Laboratory of Medical Artificial Intelligence Research and Validation, have also been officially released. YITU Medical achieved high scores in all three assessment categories—product functionality testing, performance testing, and expert review—and ranked among the top of the 17 participating companies, receiving a certificate of honor.

Full-Stack AI Solutions Power the Intelligent Transformation of Healthcare in China

Only AI solutions that deeply align with value-driven needs can stand out in fierce competition. From intelligent medical big data and clinical decision support to smart internet healthcare platforms; from standalone AI applications to patient-centric, full-lifecycle solutions, YITU Medical has been deeply engaged in this field for many years.

At Shanghai Children’s Medical Center, the Smart Children’s Hospital solution developed by YITU Healthcare has provided intelligent pre-consultation, triage, and pre-visit testing services to over 270,000 pediatric patients and their parents within just one year, saving approximately 90 minutes per medical visit.

At the Shanghai Public Health Clinical Center, the intelligent chest CT evaluation system for COVID-19, jointly developed by Yitu Medical and a team of experts, was completed in just four days. Following its official launch, it was rapidly deployed in more than 100 medical institutions across over a dozen provinces, including Hubei, Shanghai, Beijing, Zhejiang, Sichuan, Xinjiang, and Inner Mongolia. The “AI Fight Against the Epidemic” initiative received acclaim from multiple authorities, including the National Health Commission and the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology.

At the Xuhui Fenglin Community Health Service Center, China’s first intelligent service platform for children’s medical and healthcare, built by Yitu Medical, is operating smoothly. A mother is accompanying her five-year-old daughter for an intelligent growth and development assessment. After the X-ray images are captured, the doctor simply clicks the mouse, and within seconds, a comprehensive and precise report on the child’s growth and development appears on the screen. Powered by AI, this system enables residents to access expert-level intelligent pediatric medical services right in their local communities, without having to travel far from home.

At Ruijin Hospital, Shanghai Jiao Tong University School of Medicine; Yueyang Hospital of Integrated Traditional Chinese and Western Medicine, Shanghai University of Traditional Chinese Medicine; Shanghai Seventh People’s Hospital; Jinshan Hospital, Fudan University; and Shanghai Tongren Hospital, an increasing number of intelligent solutions are being deeply integrated into clinical workflows, serving as valuable assistants and a “second brain” for clinicians.

From point-based applications to closed-loop scenario solutions, and from top-tier hospitals to primary healthcare institutions, medical artificial intelligence is achieving value breakthroughs in an increasing number of scenarios, facilitating the intelligent transformation of China’s healthcare system. YITU Medical will continue to uphold its corporate philosophy of leveraging technological innovation to ensure better healthcare access for all, accelerate the intelligent development of China’s healthcare system, and contribute to the “Healthy China 2030” initiative.
