“I never expected to be able to consult with a top specialist in Beijing through just an internet cable—it’s incredibly convenient!” Mr. Wei (pseudonym), 57, has a more than 20-year history of hepatitis and a significant family history of liver cancer. He was recently admitted to the Yanping Branch of Nanping First Hospital due to unbearable abdominal pain, with suspected liver cirrhosis that proved difficult to diagnose initially. This morning, accompanied by Dr. Wang Changxing, Mr. Wei connected via telemedicine with Director Shan Jing from the Department of Hepatology at Beijing You’an Hospital, Capital Medical University. After a detailed inquiry into his current condition and medical history, Director Shan provided clear guidance: first undergo high-sensitivity HBV DNA quantification testing, followed by antiviral therapy.
Mr. Wei decided to follow the experts’ advice and promptly schedule his treatment with his attending physician, becoming the first patient to benefit from remote consultations after the launch of the Jian Gong Ti (Nanping) Internet Hospital. Henceforth, “face-to-face” interactions with doctors via the internet will become the new normal for medical care among residents of Nanping.
On July 10, the Jian Gong Ti (Nanping) Internet Hospital, Nanping’s first internet hospital, was officially unveiled and launched online. This marks a significant milestone in the joint efforts of both parties to implement the “Nanping Health Community,” following the signing of a cooperation agreement between WeDoctor Group and the Nanping Municipal Government last October to co-build “Healthy Nanping.”
Yuan Yi, Secretary of the Nanping Municipal Committee of the Communist Party of China, attended the press conference and delivered a speech. He stated that the launch and operation of the internet hospital marks a critical step in the development of Nanping’s “Health Community” (Jian Gongti), representing an important initiative and concrete action to advance the Healthy Nanping strategy. He expressed hope that this milestone would serve as an opportunity to continuously deepen healthcare reform, accelerate the implementation of Health Community projects, achieve integrated coordination among medical care, pharmaceuticals, health insurance, and elderly care (“Four-Medical Linkage”), continually enhance the public’s health and well-being, and promote high-quality development in the health sector.
As the primary internet hospital platform supporting the implementation and operation of the “Nanping Health Community,” the Nanping Health Community Internet Hospital is physically anchored by the Yanping Branch of Nanping First Hospital. Leveraging a digital platform, it integrates medical institutions across four tiers—city, county, township, and village. Furthermore, by tapping into WeDoctor’s central internet hospital, it provides direct access to high-quality medical resources nationwide, including those in Beijing. This initiative helps Nanping establish a regional digital tiered diagnosis and treatment system, bringing specialist expertise down to the grassroots level and enabling local residents to consult top-tier specialists without leaving the city. Currently, more than 60 renowned specialists from over 60 Grade A tertiary hospitals in Beijing have joined the Nanping Health Community Internet Hospital and are providing free online consultations to patients this month.
Liao Jieyuan, Chairman and CEO of WeDoctor Group, stated that the Jian Gong Ti (Nanping) Internet Hospital will leverage digital technologies to integrate online and offline services, facilitate the implementation of tiered diagnosis and treatment, and strive to establish Nanping as a key demonstration zone for bringing top-tier Beijing medical experts down to the grassroots level. Meanwhile, it aims to enhance grassroots healthcare capabilities, upgrade family doctor contract services, and ensure that high-quality medical resources benefit the population of northern Fujian more extensively and effectively.
It is reported that residents of Nanping can follow and log in to the WeChat official account “Jian Gong Ti Nanping Internet Hospital.” By clicking on “Consultation and Medication Purchase” in the menu bar, they can access the internet hospital and select services such as “Convenience Outpatient Clinic” and “Specialist Outpatient Clinic,” which support text-and-image consultations, phone calls, and video consultations. After a detailed consultation, physicians may issue electronic prescriptions based on the patient’s condition. Upon completing online medication purchase and payment, patients can wait for home delivery of their medications.
Currently, the Jian Gong Ti (Nanping) Internet Hospital has been approved as a designated medical institution under the Nanping Municipal Medical Insurance Program. In the future, once online medical insurance payment for internet-based diagnosis and treatment services is officially launched, residents of Nanping will be able to truly enjoy an integrated online-to-offline closed-loop service that includes online follow-up consultations, chronic disease management, online medical insurance payments, and home delivery of medications.
At the press conference, Yuan Yi, Secretary of the Nanping Municipal Committee of the Communist Party of China, and Liao Jieyuan, Chairman of WeDoctor Group, delivered remarks. Zhang Peidong, Member of the Standing Committee of the Municipal Party Committee and Head of the Publicity Department, and Liu Kanglin, Vice President of WeDoctor Group, jointly unveiled the plaque for the Jian Gong Ti (Nanping) Internet Hospital. The event was hosted by Zhu Renxiu, Deputy Mayor of Nanping City.
