On February 1, 2026, the launch meeting for the Beijing Municipal Science and Technology Commission's project "A Prospective Multicenter Clinical Study on the Effectiveness and Safety of Post-Market Zirconia Ceramic Hip Systems Produced in China" was held in Beijing. Leaders and experts from the Beijing Municipal Science and Technology Commission’s Beijing Center for Medical and Health Science and Technology Development, the lead organization Peking University Third Hospital, participating research institutions, cooperative enterprises, and other relevant organizations attended.

Tian Hua's Speech

At the launch meeting, Professor Tian Hua, project leader and Director of the Joint Surgery Department of Orthopedics at Peking University Third Hospital, stated in his speech that China has long relied on imports for core components of artificial joints, such as high-performance ceramic joint heads. This not only increases the burden on patients but also restricts the independent innovation and supply chain security of related domestic industries. This project focuses on the domestically produced zirconia ceramic femoral head developed by Arthrone Co., Ltd., conducting a multi-center clinical study post-market. It is a key measure to achieve the transformation of high-end joint materials from "complete dependence" to "independent control." On behalf of the project team, Tian Hua pledged to strictly adhere to scientific standards and ethical guidelines, strengthen multi-center collaborative cooperation, and promote the transformation and application of research results.

Zhang Yan's Speech

Zhang Yan, representing the supervising unit of Beijing Medical and Health Technology Development Center, delivered a speech emphasizing that promoting the innovative development of the pharmaceuticals and health industry is an important task in building Beijing into an international center for scientific and technological innovation. This project focuses on real-world studies of high-end medical devices post-market entry, which holds significant exemplary importance for exploring a virtuous cycle path of "research-production-application," accumulating clinical evidence specific to the Chinese population, and advancing the deep integration of "industry-university-research-medical testing." She hopes that all participating units will adhere to the scientific spirit, strengthen collaborative innovation, focus on results-oriented approaches, ensure the authenticity and reliability of research data, and ultimately produce high-level research outcomes that genuinely allow technological innovation to benefit people's livelihoods.

Yan Liying's Speech

Yan Liying, Director of the Scientific Research Department of Peking University Third Hospital, spoke on behalf of the lead organization, stating that the Orthopedics Department of Peking University Third Hospital is a National Key Clinical Specialty, the Precision Medicine in Bone and Joint Engineering Research Center of the Ministry of Education, and the National Demonstration Center for Digital Orthopedics. It has deep expertise and leading advantages in the diagnosis, treatment, and research of bone and joint diseases. Peking University Third Hospital will earnestly fulfill its responsibilities as the lead organization, establish a professional project management team, create an efficient and collaborative working mechanism, strictly adhere to research ethics and standards, fully ensure high-quality progress of the project, and strive to transform research achievements into powerful drivers for clinical practice and industrial development.

Zhang Jifeng Introduces the Innovation Journey of Arthrone Co., Ltd.

Zhang Jifeng, Chairman of Arthrone, introduced the company's innovation journey. He stated that after years of research, Arthrone successfully developed zirconia ceramic femoral heads, which were approved for marketing by the end of November 2024, achieving a significant breakthrough in core materials for ceramic joints produced in China.

Dr. Zhang Yunlong, the company's chief scientist, provided a professional explanation on the research and development process, technical advantages, and product characteristics of zirconia ceramic materials. Zheng Yuhang from the Department of Orthopedics at Peking University Third Hospital, representing the project team, presented the specific research plan, progress schedule, task distribution, and expected outcomes. The attending experts conducted an in-depth discussion on issues such as scientific validity, feasibility, innovation points, and clinical practice, offering constructive suggestions. They also clarified subsequent work milestones and communication mechanisms.

Expert Discussion

The launch conference clarified the significance of the project, consolidated consensus among all parties, arranged the work plan, and achieved the expected results. The project team will carefully review and incorporate the suggestions from experts, refine the research plan, and steadily advance subsequent work. The implementation of this project will provide solid data support and evidence-based medical proof for the clinical promotion of high-end medical devices produced in China, help enhance China's independent innovation capability in high-end medical devices, and make a positive contribution to the construction of Healthy China.
