2020 China Children and Adolescents Health Management Summit Successfully Concluded

On July 17, the “2020 China Child and Adolescent Health Management Summit,” hosted by the Chinese Society of Health Informatics and Medical Big Data, concluded successfully. Centering on critical issues affecting the healthy growth of children and adolescents, the summit invited numerous industry experts to jointly explore the development and innovation of child and adolescent health management from policy, industrial, and academic perspectives. At the conference, meanwhileThe Chinese Health Information and Healthcare Big Data Association was convened.Committee on Health Promotion for Children and AdolescentsFounding Conference.


Jin Xiaotao, former member of the Party Leadership Group and former Deputy Director of the National Health and Family Planning Commission, and President of the Chinese Society for Health Informatics and Medical Big Data; Ou Xiaoli, Director of the Department of Social Development at the National Development and Reform Commission; He Qinghua, First-Level Inspector at the Bureau of Disease Prevention and Control under the National Health Commission; Zhang Zhiqiang, Deputy Director of the Department of Food Safety Standards, Monitoring and Assessment under the National Health Commission; and Cao Bin, former Deputy Inspector-General of the Department of Maternal and Child Health under the National Health Commission, attended the conference and delivered speeches. Cui Yanli, former Deputy Director of the Population Culture Development Center under the National Health Commission and Vice President of the Chinese Society for Health Informatics and Medical Big Data, read out the official approval document for the establishment of the Working Committee on Child and Adolescent Health Promotion of the Chinese Society for Health Informatics and Medical Big Data. The conference was hosted by the Deputy Director of the Refractive Specialty Group of the Ophthalmology Department at Beijing Tongren Hospital(Presiding over the work), Chief Physician Zhai Changbin presided.

In his address, Jin Xiaotao pointed out that General Secretary Xi Jinping has emphasized that the healthy growth of children and adolescents is vital to the future of the country and the nation, and that the task of nurturing them into qualified successors of socialism with Chinese characteristics in the new era is arduous and long-term. The CPC Central Committee and the State Council have always attached great importance to work concerning children and adolescents. It is essential to thoroughly implement the spirit of General Secretary Xi Jinping’s important instructions and directives on promoting the health of children and adolescents, and to focus on key areas in carrying out the work of the Working Committee. Efforts should be made to promote comprehensive cultivation, holistic growth, and all-around development across moral, intellectual, physical, aesthetic, and labor education, ensuring that every child and adolescent becomes a qualified successor who loves the Party, the country, the people, and the cause of socialism. Meanwhile, the distinctive features of scientific development driven by modern healthcare big data applications in the physical and mental health, learning, and daily lives of children and adolescents should be fully demonstrated. Greater social forces should be united to participate in the promotion of children’s and adolescents’ health, contributing to the building of a Healthy China and the realization of the Chinese Dream.

In his address, Ou Xiaoli pointed out that with the rapid development of the economy and society, health problems among children and adolescents are showing a trend of increasing prevalence, high incidence, and affecting younger age groups. Influencing factors such as the environment, family, and personal lifestyle behaviors are becoming increasingly complex and diverse, posing new and severe challenges to protecting and promoting the health of children and adolescents. Common health issues among children and adolescents, such as obesity and myopia, as well as risk factors like road traffic accidents and unintentional injuries, are largely preventable and controllable. This requires early action and joint efforts from the government, society, industry organizations, and every family to form a combined force.

In his address, He Qinghua emphasized that the prevention and control of myopia among children and adolescents is a critical component of their overall health and constitutes a systematic endeavor. Efforts must be implemented at the grassroots level, fostering collaboration among families, schools, and medical institutions to establish a systematic, comprehensive, and scientific framework for myopia prevention and control. This includes strengthening monitoring networks for visual health and related risk factors, enhancing data collection and informatization, exploring effective interventions for myopia prevention and control, and developing project outcomes that are replicable, referenceable, and scalable.

 In his address, Zhang Zhiqiang highlighted the major nutritional and health issues affecting children and adolescents in China, as well as efforts to improve their status. He pointed out that, in response to the dual challenges of overweight/obesity and undernutrition among Chinese children, the National Health Commission is implementing student nutrition initiatives. Moving forward, with strong support and coordination from relevant departments and broad participation from all sectors of society, these efforts will continue, aiming to steadily enhance the nutritional and health status of the student population.

Wang Ningli, Director of the Ophthalmology Center at Beijing Tongren Hospital, Dean of the School of Ophthalmology at Capital Medical University, and Director of the National Engineering Research Center for Ophthalmic Diagnosis and Treatment Technology, delivered a keynote presentation on “Vision Health Management in Adolescents,” systematically introducing topics ranging from the hazards of myopia and national strategies to comprehensive prevention and control interventions.

Duan Leilei, Director of the Injury Prevention and Mental Health Division at the National Center for Chronic and Noncommunicable Disease Control and Prevention, Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention, and Researcher, in "GlobalIn the thematic presentation titled “Current Status and Prevention and Control Strategies for Childhood Injuries in China,” the current global and national landscape of childhood injuries and corresponding prevention and control strategies were introduced from three perspectives: the current status of childhood injuries, prevention and control strategies, and practical experiences of the National Center for Chronic and Noncommunicable Disease Control and Prevention at the Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention.


Tian Jian, President of Beijing Children’s Hospital Baoding Hospital, delivered a presentation titled “Pediatric Informatics and the Application of Health Big Data.” The content covered the development direction of hospital informatics and the application of health big data.This paper discusses the development of pediatric informatics and health big data applications by integrating national policies, technological innovation and application, and practical case studies.


Ma Lin, Director of the Department of Dermatology at Beijing Children’s Hospital, Professor, and Doctoral Supervisor, delivered a presentation titled “Skin Health Management in Infants and Young Children.” Drawing on her clinical experience, she provided a systematic overview of skin health management for this population, focusing on four key aspects: skin structure, the determination of skin function by skin structure, the critical role of proper cleansing and care habits in maintaining skin health, and management strategies for skin abnormalities.


Zhu Huiting, Associate Chief Physician in the Department of Dermatology at Beijing Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine, delivered a systematic and detailed presentation on “Treatment and Care of Infantile Eczema,” covering its etiology, characteristics in children, treatment strategies, and nursing care.


Lan Hai, founder of “Lan Hai on Growth” and invited expert for the program “Super Nanny,” shared insights on the topic “How Can Parents Help Children Overcome Psychological Distress During the COVID-19 Pandemic?” Her presentation provided guidance and practical strategies to help parents better address their children’s psychological challenges and support them in overcoming mental health difficulties during the pandemic.

Address by Cao Bin


 At the concurrently held China Health Information and Healthcare Big Data SocietyWorking Committee on Health Promotion for Children and AdolescentsAt the inaugural meeting, the list of elected members of the first Working Committee was announced. Cao Bin was elected as Chairman of the Working Committee on Health Promotion for Children and Adolescents, and Zhai Changbin was elected as Vice Chairman and Secretary-General. Experts specializing in pediatrics from children’s hospitals, maternal and child health care hospitals, and general hospitals across multiple provinces and municipalities—including Beijing, Guangzhou, Jiangsu, Zhejiang, Hunan, Hubei, Shanxi, Sichuan, and Chongqing—were elected as Vice Chairmen, Standing Directors, and Directors, respectively.


Co-organized by the Futang Children’s Medical Development and Research Center, Beijing Tongren Hospital Affiliated to Capital Medical University, School of Public Health at Peking University, and Beijing Xinhai Boren Medical Research Institute, with support from Bode Biotechnology (Beijing) Co., Ltd. and Beijing Tongzhi Ren Technology Co., Ltd., more than6,000 online attendees.
