VCBeat has learned that Oriza Holdings (hereinafter referred to as “Oriza”) announced today that its managed Sino-French Cooperation Fund has completed an €80 million investment in Dutch Ophthalmic Research Center (hereinafter referred to as “Dutch Ophthalmic” or “DORC”), a global leader in vitreoretinal surgical equipment.

This investment marks the first deal by the China-France Cooperation Fund, which seeks to invest in French and European companies operating in high-growth sectors in China and actively supports their growth potential. Prior to the establishment of the China-France Cooperation Fund, this investment was accounted for as part of Eurazeo’s portfolio and reflected in its financial statements. This transaction will not affect other funds under Eurazeo, particularly Eurazeo Capital IV, which includes earlier investments in Dutch ophthalmology companies. Currently, Eurazeo has contributed 50% of the capital raised for the China-France Cooperation Fund. As a result, this investment has had a positive impact of €40 million on Eurazeo’s cash position.

Dutch Ophthalmic is a portfolio company of Eurazeo Capital, engaged in the design, manufacturing, and distribution of disposable and reusable ophthalmic surgical instruments, fluids, and surgical equipment, particularly those used in vitreoretinal surgery. Renowned for its innovation, the company serves more than 5,700 surgeons across 80 countries and regions. With over 500 employees worldwide, it holds a strong market position in Europe and the United States. In 2019, the company achieved annual revenue of €135 million.

The investment from the China-France Cooperation Fund enables Dutch Ophthalmic to fully leverage the respective strengths of Eurazeo, China Investment Corporation, and BNP Paribas, thereby accelerating its further development in the Chinese market, which is growing at a rate of 15%–20%. The fund has already assisted Dutch Ophthalmic in establishing an advisory committee composed of renowned Chinese surgeons to facilitate market entry and launch products tailored to the specific needs of the Chinese market.

By fully establishing its presence in the Chinese market, Dutch Ophthalmic will become a global leader in vitreoretinal surgery.
