Achieving export success is no accident; it is built on designing the right international growth strategy for a company and continuously and deliberately strengthening its capabilities and resilience. Exporting products does not equate to international business expansion. When formulating an international expansion strategy, it is crucial to understand the import and export trade policies of each target market.

Intellectual property protection in the Chinese market is far better than outsiders imagine. Yunfeng Capital, Executive Director

China’s healthcare market has transitioned from the 1.0 stage, which focused on accessibility, to the 2.0 era, which balances affordability with quality of care. Demographic shifts associated with an aging population and changes in disease patterns, coupled with rising per capita GDP, have further stimulated robust demand on the demand side of the medical innovation market. This has given rise to a cohort of domestic innovative pharmaceutical companies, strengthened their ties with overseas counterparts, and facilitated the international expansion of Chinese enterprises. AstraZeneca’s I·Campus platform effectively connects domestic and international institutions and businesses. It is believed that such collaboration will foster a new generation of pioneering pharmaceutical innovation companies within the broader context of value-based healthcare.

Overall, China’s healthcare market is evolving toward greater innovation, integration, and efficiency, and is currently at a critical juncture of transformation. Overseas companies entering the Chinese market must pay close attention to these market dynamics.

Even against the backdrop of the global COVID-19 pandemic, we believe that China’s healthcare industry will continue to develop, particularly in areas such as innovative drugs, healthcare digitalization, diagnostics, and internet-based healthcare. As a sector that has been subject to stringent regulation and ongoing systemic reforms in recent years, in-depth understanding of local legal practices and forward-looking assessment of policy trends are critical factors for foreign enterprises to achieve business success in China.
