On September 9, the official website of the Beijing Municipal Healthcare Security Administration announced the results of the finals of the inaugural “Beijing Digital Intelligence Healthcare Insurance Innovation Competition” (hereinafter referred to as the “Beijing DEMI” Competition). Among them, Ping An Medical and Healthcare Management Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as “Ping An HealthTech”) won the championship in the “Macro Decision Support for Healthcare Insurance” category.

It is reported that this competition was jointly organized by the Beijing Municipal Healthcare Security Administration, the Beijing Municipal Bureau of Economy and Information Technology, the Beijing Municipal Science and Technology Commission, and the Administrative Committee of Zhongguancun Science Park. Themed “Innovative Beijing, Smart Healthcare Security,” the competition featured two tracks: “Supervision and Management of Healthcare Security Funds” and “Macro-Decision Support for Healthcare Security.” The initiative aims to identify cutting-edge innovative entities and frontier products through the competition, fostering the integrated development of healthcare security and high-tech industries through government-business collaboration.

Online registration for the competition officially opened in late May, encouraging enterprises, universities, and research institutions to sign up. With more than 140 teams participating, Ping An Health Insurance Technology assembled a formidable team boasting expertise in business operations, technology, actuarial science, and hospital management.
According to the participants, during the preliminary round, the Ping An Health Insurance Technology team drew extensively on practical experience from the nationwide implementation of its macro-decision-making products since 2019. The team identified key areas of interest for prefecture-level city users and designed a competition proposal that highlighted core functionalities of its prefecture-level macro-decision-making product, including benefit level analysis, policy adjustment simulation, and healthcare institution management. By balancing professional business expertise with technological advancement, the team earned high praise from the preliminary judges and advanced to the finals in first place.
In the final stage, the Ping An Health Insurance Technology team structured their business analysis proposal around the framework of “problem identification – problem diagnosis – problem resolution,” in accordance with the competition requirements. The proposal covered analyses of the current status and effectiveness of health insurance operations, identification and characterization of care models for key chronic diseases, as well as the design and actuarial modeling of policy schemes for general outpatient services and outpatient chronic disease management. Leveraging big data processing and data modeling techniques—including natural language processing, pattern recognition, and simulation—the team applied innovative technologies to address health insurance operational challenges. Ultimately, they secured first place in both the business and technical evaluation categories, winning the championship in the “Macro Decision Support for Health Insurance” track. Additionally, the Ping An Health Insurance Technology team received the Innovation Award in the finals of the “Health Insurance Fund Supervision and Management” track.

This competition fully demonstrated Ping An Health Insurance Technology’s steady progress and accumulated expertise in healthcare insurance innovation technology in recent years, as well as the company’s achievements in focusing on key areas of healthcare reform. Over the years, through continuous investment in research and development, Ping An Health Insurance Technology has established technological barriers that lead the industry. In May 2019, Ping An Health Insurance Technology won the bid for Lot 7 of the National Healthcare Security Administration’s Healthcare Security Information Platform Construction Project—the procurement project for constructing the Macro-Decision Big Data Application Subsystem and the Operation Monitoring Subsystem. Building on its experience in developing the national healthcare security platform, Ping An Health Insurance Technology has continued to innovate and actively explored comprehensive big data governance solutions for healthcare insurance based on a “data middle platform + data applications” model across various regions. This has successfully translated the company’s mature technologies into practical applications, comprehensively supporting local governments in advancing the modernization of healthcare insurance governance.
Healthcare insurance reform is a critical initiative that directly impacts the well-being of the general public. The informatization and refined management of healthcare insurance are inevitable trends and key components of healthcare reform that benefit millions. A representative from Ping An Healthcare Insurance Technology stated that the company will continue to increase its investment in the research, development, and application of innovative healthcare insurance technologies. This effort aims to address issues such as extensive management practices, imbalances between revenue and expenditure, and fraud and abuse within the healthcare insurance system. By empowering healthcare insurance administrative agencies with scientific decision-making capabilities and efficient operations, the company seeks to provide sustainable support for deepening healthcare reform, facilitating the “three-medical linkage” (coordination among medical care, health insurance, and pharmaceuticals), and achieving the goals of “one reduction and two improvements.”
