In today’s society, 5G, the Industrial Internet, and artificial intelligence (AI), as key directions in the evolution and upgrading of new-generation information and communication technologies, serve as core drivers for the digital transformation of the economy and society. In the healthcare sector, the integrated development of new-generation information technologies with medical and health services has become an irresistible trend of the times. This integration plays a crucial supporting role in advancing the deepening of healthcare system reforms, accelerating the construction of a “Healthy China,” and promoting the development of the medical and health industry, offering broad prospects and immense potential. By leveraging emerging technologies such as 5G, the Industrial Internet, and AI, the traditional healthcare industry can significantly improve the allocation efficiency of health resources, enhance patient care experiences, strengthen doctor-patient interactions, elevate the quality of medical services, and facilitate the gradual transition from internet-based healthcare to fully connected smart healthcare.
The CPC Central Committee and the State Council attach great importance to the integrated development of next-generation information and communication technologies with healthcare. General Secretary Xi Jinping has pointed out that it is necessary to promote initiatives such as “Internet Plus Healthcare,” enabling citizens to make fewer trips while allowing data to do more of the running, thereby continuously enhancing the equity, inclusiveness, and convenience of public services. On October 22, the General Office of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology and the General Office of the National Health Commission jointly issued the Notice on Further Strengthening the Development of Telemedicine Network Capabilities, leveraging information and communication networks to foster the healthy development of smart healthcare.
