A Medical-Industrial-Academic Extravaganza: 2020 China Heart Surgery Frontier Technology Forum to Convene

As the first content platform integrating clinical practice and industry innovation in China’s cardiac surgery field, the first platform dedicated to physician-led innovation and the translation of research outcomes, and the first platform for launching cutting-edge technologies, the inaugural forum held in 2019 achieved a series of landmark accomplishments. In 2020, the forum will be themed “Heart Era”, covering four key areas: discipline development, talent cultivation, frontier disciplinary trends, and industry-academia-research-clinical collaboration, emphasizing future planning for cardiac surgery department development, management and operations, and continuing education for cardiac surgeons, while uniting industry forces to jointly promote the advancement of cardiac surgery in China.

Professor Sun Lizhong, the forum’s initiator and conference chair (President-Elect of the Branch of Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery of the Chinese Medical Association, and Director of the Center for Cardiac Surgery at Beijing Anzhen Hospital, Capital Medical University), stated that during the more than 60-year development of cardiac surgery in China, surgical techniques have not been the sole limiting factor. Often, inadequacies in materials or equipment at certain stages have prevented some patients from receiving timely treatment. Professor Sun believes that over the past six decades, every advancement in cardiac surgical procedures has reflected broader societal progress, necessitating continuous innovation through collaborative efforts among industry, academia, research, and clinical practice in the field of cardiac surgery.

At this forum, Sun Lizhong will join industry leaders such as Cai Zhenjie (Dean of the Cardiovascular Hospital of Shaanxi Provincial People’s Hospital, former Director of the Center for Cardiac Surgery at Xijing Hospital), Xu Jianping (former Director of the Adult Cardiac Surgery Center at Fuwai Hospital, Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences), Zhuang Jian (former Chairman of the Society of Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery of the Chinese Medical Association, former President of Guangdong Provincial People’s Hospital), and Ye Hong (Managing Director of Wuhan Asia Heart Hospital) to deliver speeches on topics including surgical skills, teaching and training, discipline planning, and departmental operations. More than 15 academic and industry guests will gather to comprehensively analyze the current status and challenges of cardiac surgery in China, driving a nationwide collaborative momentum among hospital departments in the cardiovascular field.
