Scientific assessment screening, precise differentiation between benign and malignant nodules... By leveraging artificial intelligence and Internet of Things (IoT) technologies, standardized diagnosis and management of pulmonary nodules are achieved. On November 18, WeDoctor joined forces with the China Alliance for Lung Cancer Prevention and Control to establish the WeDoctor Intelligent Health Academy in Hangzhou and launch the WeDoctor Pulmonary Nodule Diagnosis and Treatment Center. Both parties will use pulmonary nodules as a breakthrough point to upgrade the current “artisanal workshop-style” diagnostic and treatment model into a “standardized process” of homogeneous care that meets national and even international standards, thereby improving long-term survival rates for lung cancer patients. Professor Bai Chunxue, Chairman of the China Alliance for Lung Cancer Prevention and Control and a leading figure in respiratory medicine, has been appointed as Dean of the WeDoctor Intelligent Health Academy, Director of the WeDoctor Pulmonary Nodule Diagnosis and Treatment Center, and Chief Expert.

Lung cancer ranks first among malignant tumors in China, with approximately 787,000 new cases annually and a five-year survival rate of only 19.7%. Led by Professor Chunxue Bai, the “Chinese Consensus on Diagnosis and Treatment of Pulmonary Nodules” and the “Asia-Pacific Guidelines for Diagnosis and Treatment of Pulmonary Nodules” were formulated. Leveraging the Internet of Things (IoT), the intelligent auxiliary diagnostic and therapeutic tool for pulmonary nodules, PNapp, was developed by integrating domestic and international consensus guidelines. Featuring a distinctive “5A” workflow, PNapp significantly enhances the ability to differentiate between benign and malignant pulmonary nodules and establishes comprehensive personalized management for patients. It achieves a professional capability of up to 90% accuracy in differentiating benign from malignant nodules smaller than 10 mm, diagnoses over 200,000 cases of early-stage lung cancer annually, and provides lifelong benefits to patients.
Early-stage lung cancer is often insidious and asymptomatic; approximately two-thirds of patients are diagnosed at an advanced stage, having missed the window for surgical intervention. Under current medical conditions, physicians assess the benign or malignant nature of pulmonary nodules through manual visual interpretation of imaging features.Accurate diagnosis of nodules smaller than 10 mm is extremely challenging, and clinicians generally recommend follow-up observation. Adhering to the mission of “early diagnosis offering the potential for lifelong cure, and intelligent diagnostics and treatment extending life,” the WeDoctor Pulmonary Nodule Diagnosis and Treatment Center, based on the Chinese Consensus on the Diagnosis and Treatment of Pulmonary Nodules and the Asia-Pacific Guidelines for the Diagnosis and Treatment of Pulmonary Nodules, utilizes pulmonary nodulePNapp 5AIntelligent AI-assisted diagnosis and treatment workflow applications and physician training and certification, leveraging the WeDoctor Internet Hospital platform network, provide patients with online consultations and expert second opinions for pulmonary nodules in accordance with international standards, promoting early screening, early diagnosis, and early treatment of lung cancer.BaLung CancerShifting the Focus of Treatment to Earlier Stages for Better Prognostic Outcomes。

The WeDoctor Pulmonary Nodule Diagnosis and Treatment Center is the first single-disease digital “online + offline” full-course management diagnosis and treatment center established after the founding of the WeDoctor Intelligent Health Academy. It features “authoritative certified experts, intelligent auxiliary assessment, and internationally leading standards.” Professor Bai Chunxue introduced that artificial intelligence and big data technologies can help doctors accurately and quickly locate pulmonary nodules from hundreds of thin-slice chest CT images, provide risk probability assessments, and offer international imaging clinical standards for reference. This provides objective imaging data support for pulmonary nodule diagnosis, effectively reducing missed and misdiagnoses while improving diagnostic efficiency. With the launch of the WeDoctor Pulmonary Nodule Diagnosis and Treatment Center services, it will further promote the “Hundred-Thousand-Million Project” of the China Lung Cancer Prevention and Control Alliance, implement the work of “PN Five-Step Process in Real-World Practice,” and establish an online and offline full-course management service network for pulmonary nodule patients across China, covering “screening—diagnosis—treatment—postoperative care.”
At the event, WeDoctor Smart Health Academy also signed letters of intent for research collaboration with multiple partners, and will actively cooperate in areas such as IoT academic research and technology application. Guided by its vision of “Renowned Physicians Prevent Disease Before It Arises; Great Physicians Benefit All People,” WeDoctor Smart Health Academy will actively engage in new product development, academic research, teaching, and certification. It aims to provide comprehensive theoretical, technical, and practical support for smart health, thereby establishing a comprehensive center for smart health research and management.
Liao Jieyuan, Chairman and CEO of WeDoctor, stated that WeDoctor has been committed to enhancing the efficiency of healthcare services through internet and digital technologies. After a decade of accumulation, WeDoctor’s business now covers the entire “Internet + Healthcare” industry chain, forming a closed loop encompassing medical care, pharmaceuticals, and health insurance. In the realm of chronic disease management, WeDoctor has developed an efficient service system centered on “prevention, diagnosis, treatment, management, and health promotion.” Early diagnosis and treatment of lung cancer will save many lives and families. WeDoctor aims to establish its Pulmonary Nodule Diagnosis and Treatment Center as a benchmark project for digital chronic disease management. Meanwhile, it will collaborate with industry partners to build digital prevention and control systems for more diseases, leveraging technological innovation to benefit human health.
