Since its official opening in September 2019, I·Campus has welcomed 20 global innovative medical enterprises. As a global innovation incubation platform jointly established by the Wuxi Municipal Government, the Wuxi High-Tech Zone Government, and AstraZeneca, the Innovation Park aims to empower domestic and international innovative companies with project implementation, innovation incubation, commercial acceleration, and scaling in the Chinese market. The “I·Campus Enterprise Series” will regularly feature representative tenant companies to enhance awareness and understanding of their work. Additionally, this column provides companies with an opportunity to publicly recruit partners; interested parties are welcome to contact us via the information provided at the end of the article.
As global medical research collaboration continues to expand, China is gradually becoming one of the most dynamic and promising markets for innovative drug development. The Chinese government has also introduced a series of policies to continuously optimize the environment for pharmaceutical innovation. As a rapidly growing CRO company, Guanhe Medical grows with the market, adapts to trends, and actively seeks greater development opportunities. In April this year, Guanhe Medical officially signed an agreement to settle in Wuxi International Life Science Innovation Park (I∙Campus) and established the Wuxi Guanhe Medical Laboratory. By leveraging multi-party resources, it further promotes the high-quality development of the life science industry.

Guanhe Medicine, a joint venture established by Dian Diagnostics and Tigermed in 2016, provides central laboratory services for clinical trials in accordance with the College of American Pathologists (CAP) quality system standards. To date, Guanhe Medicine has delivered rigorous and complex laboratory solutions for more than 300 Phase I–IV drug clinical trials. These solutions encompass study design, testing services, and associated central laboratory project management, laboratory supplies, specimen management and long-term storage, sample logistics, real-time online reporting, data analysis and transfer, and system integration.

In this installment of the “I·Campus Corporate Series,” we are delighted to welcome Xu Yi, General Manager of Shanghai Guanhe Pharmaceutical Technology Co., Ltd., to discuss how Guanhe Pharma, a dynamic and innovative enterprise, is seizing opportunities in China’s innovative drug R&D landscape and advancing medical research under the new paradigm.

Q1
China’s CRO industry is undergoing a period of rapid development. As a star central laboratory company in China in recent years, could you briefly introduce the pain points addressed by Guanhe Medicine and its core strengths?
General Manager Xu Yi: Guanhe Medicine is committed to providing the most valuable central laboratory services and solutions for new drug trials, helping clients unlock product value and ultimately achieve success in clinical trials. Our highly specialized clinical research team, with extensive experience in clinical studies, serves new drug development, reducing R&D costs for pharmaceutical companies while improving R&D efficiency.
During the most severe phase of the COVID-19 pandemic this February, we promptly deployed an elite team to engage in clinical research. Under the leadership of the scientific teams from Guanhe Pharma and Dian Diagnostics, project workflow planning was completed within just two days. Despite challenges such as traffic controls and shortages of supplies, we successfully procured essential experimental materials—including equipment, reagents, and consumables—in a timely manner, thereby firing the “first shot” in the “Battle of Hope” against the epidemic. This fully demonstrates Guanhe Pharma’s strong capabilities in professional expertise and resource integration. It's a Title
Q2
The continuous development of the industry has also driven the optimization of industrial structure and resource allocation, as well as the enhancement of service capabilities for central laboratory enterprises. So, what do you consider to be the core competitiveness of Guanhe Pharma?
General Manager Xu Yi: Guanhe Medicine has established strategic partnerships with international CRO central laboratories, including MLM Medical Laboratories in Europe, BARC, ICON, and Hematogenix. In 2019, we participated for the first time in the Proficiency Testing (PT) for Next-Generation Sequencing Solid Tumor (NGSST) organized by the College of American Pathologists (CAP) and passed the test with an excellent perfect score.
These achievements are attributable to Guanhe Pharma’s robust professional capabilities, its experienced management team, and years of accumulated expertise. Led by five PhDs with extensive clinical trial experience, our elite team has supported more than 300 complex clinical trials. Leveraging highly specialized global knowledge, regulatory guidance, and information systems, we deliver creative, enterprise-grade customized services for drug clinical development and post-marketing companion diagnostics through cutting-edge testing technologies, rigorous methodological validation, and efficient, rapid technology transfer. This approach maximizes testing efficiency and cost savings for innovative drug R&D, thereby accelerating project timelines.
Q3
The transformation and development of the Chinese market will also bring a series of development opportunities to enterprises. What are the opportunities that Guanhe Pharmaceutical should seize?
Xu Yi, General Manager: China boasts a vast population base, making it the world’s largest single consumer market and the market with the greatest growth potential. Meanwhile, continuous improvements and guidance in China’s pharmaceutical regulatory policies have gradually turned the country into the most dynamic and vibrant market for innovative drug R&D globally. Therefore, both traditional pharmaceutical companies and newly established firms in China will prioritize innovative drug R&D as a key strategic direction for their future development. As a company that has grown alongside the innovative drug R&D sector, Guanhe will leverage this trend to continuously enhance its service capabilities for pharmaceutical enterprises, thereby securing greater room for development amidst the surge in innovative drug research and development.
Q4
How do you plan to seize this opportunity and ride the momentum?
General Manager Xu Yi: For Guanhe Pharma to grow into a leading provider of central laboratory services in the CRO sector, talent is paramount. Only by closely relying on talent as the key driver and partnering with individuals who share our corporate values, endorse our mission, and align with our operational philosophy can we remain steadfastly customer-centric in our future development, continuously enhance our one-stop service capabilities, and enable our pharmaceutical partners to tangibly experience our service quality, professionalism, and innovation. Ultimately, through the continuous accumulation of project expertise, we aim to build a CRO service team characterized by professionalism, efficiency, and innovation.
We aim to seize this opportunity to achieve a 50% year-over-year revenue growth rate for the next three years, meet our short-term business objective of serving the Top 20 innovative pharmaceutical companies in mainland China, and ultimately grow into China’s most professional central laboratory.
Furthermore, we are continuously seeking suitable partners to jointly expand the market and promote the integration of diagnosis and treatment. Notably, on August 11 this year, we signed a Memorandum of Strategic Cooperation with Dian Diagnostics and Innovent Biologics. Moving forward, all parties will leverage their respective resource advantages to facilitate the implementation of integrated diagnosis and treatment, focusing on research and development, translation, regulatory registration and manufacturing, clinical testing services, and market expansion related to companion diagnostics.
Q5
After settling into I‧Campus, which forms of support provided by the Wuxi government have you found most helpful?
