The Emerald Live channel has accumulated over 5 million views and more than 3 million likes. To date, the third edition of the Emerald Doctor List has attracted 2,571 physicians to register for selection. At the 2020 Winter Meivos International Medical Aesthetics Conference, Zhang Yunxiao, Vice President of New Oxygen Technology, shared the latest operational achievements of the Emerald Doctor List with the public.

According to forecasts by the International Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ISAPS), China’s medical aesthetics market was projected to reach RMB 315 billion in 2020, indicating highly promising growth trends for the industry. However, beneath this seemingly robust development lie numerous pain points, such as the rampant prevalence of illegal medical aesthetic practices and the scarcity of qualified physicians.
Zhang Yunxiao explained that this has further imposed constraints on the physician community. She also noted that many skilled physicians may lack business acumen or neglect personal brand (IP) management, resulting in low visibility and few patient inquiries. Regarding these challenges faced by aesthetic medicine practitioners, Zhang Yunxiao stated that these “unspoken” pains prevent their professional expertise from reaching a wider audience.
The launch of the Emerald Doctor Ranking provides an opportunity for outstanding physicians to step from behind the scenes into the spotlight.

As an authoritative physician ranking system designed to establish an evaluation framework for the medical aesthetics industry, the Emerald Physician List differs from other rankings that focus solely on professional proficiency by incorporating three major evaluation criteria: technical expertise, aesthetic judgment, and service quality. These criteria encompass 101 detailed dimensions, including years of clinical practice, technical skill, aesthetic outcomes, facility standards, and professional credentials. Insiders note that any single detailed dimension may serve as a decisive factor in determining whether a physician is included in the ranking.
According to Zhang Yunxiao, the Emerald Doctor List features a robust and authoritative jury. It includes associate chief physicians with over 10 years of experience in plastic surgery serving as medical advisors, and chief physicians with over 20 years of experience in the field serving as technical expert judges. Additionally, renowned editors-in-chief from prestigious fashion institutions, founders of haute couture brands, and celebrated stylists have been invited to serve as aesthetic expert judges. Notable members of the Emerald Doctor List jury include Guo Shuzhong, former Chairman of the Plastic Surgery Branch of the Chinese Medical Association; Xing Xin, former Vice Chairman of the Plastic Surgery Branch of the Chinese Medical Association; Song Jianxing, Vice President of the Aesthetic and Plastic Surgery Branch of the Chinese Medical Doctor Association; Wu Yiping, Vice President of the Aesthetic and Plastic Surgery Branch of the Chinese Medical Doctor Association; Hao Lijun, Vice Chairman of the Medical Aesthetics Branch of the Chinese Medical Association; Sha Xiaoli, Executive Publisher and Editor-in-Chief of Harper’s Bazaar China; Ma Yanli, founder of the MaryMay haute couture brand; and Hang Yue, a top celebrity hair and makeup artist and founder of Yuemeitang.

In terms of the review mechanism, the Emerald Doctor Ranking also implements a rigorous “inverted pyramid” structure. First, candidate physicians are sourced through three channels: self-nomination, expert recommendation, and selective invitation. During the formal evaluation phase, screeners conduct an initial screening of licensed physicians who have passed the review by the National Health Commission. Subsequently, technical experts and aesthetic judges perform anonymous, cross-evaluations of the candidates. The final score for each candidate is a composite score derived from all stages of the process. Furthermore, SoYoung has engaged the third-party firm PwC to perform agreed-upon procedures on all scoring aspects of the ranking selection.
VCBeat has also learned from relevant sources that even after undergoing rigorous multi-tiered reviews and ultimately making the list, physicians are not guaranteed a permanent position. “For any physician involved in falsifying information, misusing others’ credentials, or implicated in major negative medical incidents, accidents, or disputes that compromise user experience and patient safety during the selection period, the Emerald Physician List will strictly enforce a ‘one-vote veto’ policy, reserving eligibility exclusively for fully compliant physicians.”
It is under such a strict and rigorous review mechanism that the Emerald Doctor List has currently selected 196 high-quality doctors for the industry, providing strong support for purifying the industry’s ethos and promoting standardized development, while also bringing more competent doctors into the spotlight to be recognized by both the industry and consumers. A more noticeable change is that since the launch of the Emerald Doctor List, it has driven a significant increase in traffic for reputable doctors in the medical aesthetics industry.
Currently, the top-ranked physicians conduct up to 80 live streaming sessions per month. The “Emerald” live streaming room has accumulated over 5 million views and more than 3 million likes. Additionally, the number of viewers for live streams by top-ranked physicians in different regions has increased to varying degrees. Data shows that the number of live stream viewers in Shanghai was 10.8 times higher after being listed than before; in Xi’an, the number of live stream viewers was 21.5 times higher after being listed than before.
With the selection scope narrowed to more challenging reconstructive procedures—such as nasal revision, ocular reconstruction, breast reconstruction, and orthognathic surgery—the second edition of the Emerald Doctor List imposed stricter criteria for participating physicians. Encouragingly, despite the heightened level of difficulty, the second list still featured 100 high-quality doctors, including Zhang Jianlin, Chief Physician in the Department of Plastic Surgery at Shanghai Changzheng Hospital; Zhao Xiaozhong, Founder of Xiao Zhong Li Ge Medical Aesthetics Clinic; and Wang Tailings, Chief Physician at the Plastic Surgery Hospital of the Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences. Dr. Zhao Xiaozhong, a listed physician, remarked, “The Emerald Doctor List is an authoritative roster of medical professionals. Being included signifies being entrusted with the sacred mission of promoting the healthy development of the medical aesthetics industry.”
Regarding the future operational planning for the Emerald Doctor List, a key topic of discussion, Zhang Yunxiao provided his response at the Meivos event: On the product side, dedicated resource zones will be established for listed doctors, with increased traffic allocation toward features such as video consultations, Q&A sessions, and live stream previews. On the consumer (C) end, specialized surgical content will be disseminated through self-media and short-video platforms. On the business (B) end, technical knowledge sharing within the physician community will be promoted by organizing industry academic summits to facilitate exchange and launching online collaborative consultations for public welfare rescue projects.
“We are committed to going all out to establish a high-standard evaluation system for the medical aesthetics industry, diligently safeguarding the future of every compliant medical aesthetics practitioner.” Zhang Yunxiao further emphasized that the Emerald Doctor List will continue to expand its categories in the future, ultimately evolving into a comprehensive, multi-category Emerald Doctor List.

VCBeat has also learned that, in addition to launching the Emerald Doctor List, New Oxygen is continuously exploring greater possibilities for physicians, such as co-establishing the first internet hospital dedicated to medical aesthetics, officially obtaining an internet hospital license, and creating a “video trio” toolkit for doctors. Underlying these efforts is a single objective: to return medical aesthetics to its medical essence and ensure that competent physicians gain visibility.
