Chengyi Health Aims to Connect Medicine, Healthcare, Insurance, and Nursing by Leveraging 1,000 Doctors to Reach 300,000 Patients

In June 2018, Beijing was scorching under the blazing sun. Xie Qi took a seat inside the conference room and, as one of the entrepreneurial representatives in the industry, engaged in intense discussions with officials from the National Health Commission and the Beijing Municipal Health Commission on the topic of the “Internet + Nursing” policy.

At that time, the state attached great importance to “Internet + Healthcare,” successively issuing multiple policies on “Internet + Medical Health” and establishing a tone of national support. Out-of-hospital diagnosis and treatment have shown a trend toward normalization, and post-treatment rehabilitation care for patients has also been placed on the agenda.

At the conference, diverse perspectives clashed. Xie Qi also fell into deep contemplation: With the introduction of new policies, how far can the current O2O-dominated internet nursing service model go?

Internet-based O2O nursing seamlessly connects service seekers (patients) with service providers (nurses, etc.) through online platforms, adopting a model of online payment and offline service delivery. This approach meets the diverse care needs of users, particularly the elderly, by providing convenient and comprehensive community-based services. However, two major challenges must be addressed in the development of this model: first, the caregiver market is highly heterogeneous, making it difficult to ensure consistent care quality and resulting in significant medical risks; second, a stable patient flow is crucial for platform operations, so enhancing user acquisition, retention, and engagement remains an urgent priority.

Xie Qi believes that doctors in public hospitals have significant advantages and have attracted a large patient flow through their reputation. Doctors generally attract a certain patient base, whose out-of-hospital care needs remain unmet. “To reach the target user group more precisely, the doctor side is an element that cannot be overlooked.” Based on this, Xie Qi decided to start from the doctor side and pursue differentiated competition.

The substantial business opportunities and growth potential in the healthcare industry, combined with an in-depth familiarity with China’s medical care market, led Jie Qi and his old friend Xu Hao to quickly reach a consensus on launching a new venture. After six months of planning, Chengyi Health was established, aiming to build a comprehensive care service chain spanning from patient discharge to rehabilitation.

"Not a Front-Runner, but an Industry Companion"

A major advantage of Chengyi Health lies in its stable patient base. Jie Qi attributed this to the years of experience he and Xu Hao, co-founder of Chengyi Health, have accumulated in the healthcare industry.

Xie Qi and Xu Hao are both senior executives from a leading enterprise in the home-visit nursing sector. Xie Qi previously served as Chief of the Information Section at Beijing’s 12320 Health Hotline under the Beijing Municipal Health Commission, and as Vice President of the Beijing Community Health Promotion Association. With 13 years of experience in medical informatization and handling consultation and complaints, he has deep insights into user and government needs, along with extensive experience and resources in implementing family services through community health centers. Notably, Xie Qi also participated in formulating the national pilot program for “Internet Plus Nursing Services,” facilitating the implementation of Internet Plus nursing policies.

After graduating from Peking University Health Science Center and Columbia University and entering the workforce, Xu Hao established the first nurse-centric part-time service system. He has conducted in-depth research into family health and medical care systems in the United States and Canada, exploring opportunities for localized implementation in China. In addition to a complete internal team, Chengyi Health has formed deep strategic partnerships with leading players in the internet healthcare industry, including Baidu Health, Xiaohe Doctor, and Youlai Doctor.

“Always be an enabler in the healthcare industry, empowering large platforms and serving medical professionals; act as a companion to the industry rather than a frontrunner.” This is the vision of Chengyi Health. Xie Qi believes that “talent” is the most critical factor in corporate development. Behind talent lies a deep understanding of the industry and extensive experience in business operations. Having undergone the trial of “corporate re-entrepreneurship,” the Chengyi Health team has accumulated operational expertise while exploring viable business models. “The cash-burn model is no longer suitable for the current market environment. Only companies with implementable business models can survive and thrive in the long run.”

Chengyi Health partners with leading internet platforms, insurance companies, and pharmaceutical enterprises to provide services, integrating and connecting patients (demand side), healthcare professionals (service providers), and payers across these platforms to form a comprehensive post-discharge ecosystem.

Bolstered by advantages in talent, resources, and other areas, Chengyi Health completed its seed funding round just six months after its establishment. It rapidly launched “Chengyi Health,” a platform tailored for healthcare professionals, and “Duodianyi,” a patient-facing service. By building a SaaS platform that connects doctors, nurses, and patients, the company facilitates comprehensive patient management and service coordination.

Since 2020, the rampant pandemic forced “home-based nursing” services to a halt. Chengyi Health responded swiftly by adjusting its development strategy and launching multi-site physician practice services and internet IP branding initiatives, thereby minimizing losses to the greatest extent possible.

Jie Qi introduced that since the new healthcare reform, multi-site practice for physicians has been permitted at the national level. From the physicians’ perspective, the demand for income transparency (“sunshine” income) and the realization of personal professional value have also driven high participation in multi-site practice. To this end, during the pandemic, Chengyi Health launched “Duodianyi,” a multi-site practice service platform for physicians, to help them identify trustworthy private hospitals and provide these institutions with access to qualified medical professionals.

Three Major Business Products + Two Comprehensive Solutions

Currently, Chengyi Health has developed a people-centric, comprehensive home healthcare solution, which includes the multi-site physician practice appointment and registration platform “Duodianyi,” the out-of-hospital patient guidance and consultation management platform “Chengyi Health,” and the part-time service platform for health professionals “Chengyi Nurse.”

In the field of multi-site practice, Chengyi Health has achieved remarkable success by partnering with Baidu Health, Haodf, Xiaohe Doctor, and others, facilitating the implementation of multi-site practice for over 1,000 physicians across nearly 200 private hospitals. To enhance physicians’ visibility, Chengyi Health also launched a service for building physicians’ internet personal brands via ByteDance platforms (such as Toutiao and Douyin), specifically catering to highly skilled professionals who are less adept at self-promotion.

To address the diverse needs of patients, Orange One Health has launched two comprehensive solutions: home healthcare services and medical consultation services.

Chengyi Health Medical Consultation Service Solution

It is reported that Chengyi Health strives to become a patient-centered platform for out-of-hospital medical services and management. When discussing how the team formulated this future roadmap, Xie Qi stated that the new healthcare reforms and the COVID-19 pandemic have had a profound impact on all stakeholders in the healthcare industry, including physicians, pharmaceutical companies, and patients. The private healthcare system has assumed certain responsibilities traditionally held by public hospitals, such as tiered diagnosis and treatment, post-discharge rehabilitation and nursing care, and chronic disease management. In light of this, Chengyi Health has positioned its core business around the out-of-hospital medical service system.

Looking ahead, Xie Qi stated that Chengyi Health will continue to strengthen its collaborations with physicians, private medical institutions, and medical associations to enhance brand authority, standardize multi-site practice guidelines for physicians, and facilitate the implementation of multi-site practice. Additionally, Chengyi Health will expand its technical and product teams to empower healthcare professionals through a model of “small teams, extensive resources, and broad partnerships.”
