VCBeat (WeChat ID: vcbeat) has learned that Resproly, an innovative pharmaceutical company focused on the application and development of inhaled drug delivery technologies, recently announced the completion of its Series B financing round, totaling nearly RMB 200 million. The round was led by Guoke Investment, with participation from renowned institutional investors including Yuansheng Venture Capital, Cowin Capital, Qianhai Fund of Funds, Tianfeng Capital, and Yifeng Capital. Reportedly, the proceeds will be primarily used to expand the company’s existing GMP production lines and to advance its pipeline layout for high-end inhaled formulations and innovative inhaled drugs.

Previously, Resproly secured tens of millions of yuan in Series A financing in 2019 from industrial investors including Huai Ge Capital, Yanghe Industrial Investment, Gree Jin Tou, Kindly Medical, and Zhuhai Science and Technology Innovation Investment.

Resproly, established in 2018, is dedicated to the R&D and manufacturing of globally leading formulations and devices for respiratory inhalation drug delivery. Its pipeline covers a comprehensive range of respiratory products, addressing high-demand therapeutic areas such as asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), and central nervous system (CNS) disorders. The company plans to advance 2–3 investigational drugs into clinical trials within the next two years.

Chen Yongqi, Chairman of Resproly, expressed his sincere gratitude to both new and existing investors for their trust and support in the company’s technology and team, as well as for their profound understanding of the development trends in the niche sector of high-end inhalation formulations. The domestic inhalation formulation industry in China lags behind, with overseas companies long accounting for more than 90% of the market share. Resproly is committed to deepening its presence in the high-end inhalation formulation sector, living up to expectations, driving innovation, and providing Chinese patients with high-quality medicines at affordable prices that meet international standards, thereby establishing itself as an internationally influential pharmaceutical formulation platform.

Mr. Yin Lei, Managing Director of Guoke Investment, pointed out that Dr. Chen Yongqi possesses extensive experience in the field of inhalation preparations. He has led and completed the research and development of multiple original inhalation products and highly challenging generic inhalation drugs. After founding Resproly, he assembled a top-tier team in China specializing in powder inhalation formulations. Resproly’s inhalation product development technology platform is capable not only of developing generics for complex inhalation products but also of creating improved-new-drug formulations, thereby addressing a broad range of clinical needs. Guoke Investment is pleased to participate in this round of financing alongside numerous specialized healthcare investment institutions and will continue to provide sustained support for the company’s future growth.

Series B investors, including Tianfeng Capital, Yuansheng Venture Capital, Cowin Capital, Qianhai Fund of Funds, and Yifeng Capital, value Resproly’s ability to establish high competitive barriers through its integrated drug-device platform for inhalation formulations. The company is a rare, innovation-driven technology platform enterprise in China. These Series B investors have stated that they will support the company in transitioning from a biotech firm to a pharmaceutical company, aiming to become a global leader focused on dry powder inhalation formulations, committed to innovation and benefiting patients.

Prior to founding Resproly, Dr. Chen Yongqi worked at Vectura, a world leader in the development of inhalation drug delivery technologies, where he served as Chief Scientist of Inhalation Formulations. He has over 20 years of experience in the research and development of inhalation products. Among the 17 inhalation drugs marketed globally, Dr. Chen led or participated in the successful development of 13 mainstream metered-dose inhaler (MDI) and dry powder inhaler (DPI) products.

Among generic drugs, the only Seretide generic marketed in both the United States and the European Union, as well as Symbicort marketed in the European Union; among original innovative drugs, Novartis’s Ultibro and Seebri, and GSK’s new Ellipta series, were all led and developed by Dr. Chen at Vectura. Since its establishment in 2018, Resproly has rapidly assembled a technical and management team comprising experts and seasoned professionals in physics, pharmaceutics, clinical medicine, and other fields from both domestic and international backgrounds, thereby accelerating the implementation of its dry powder formulation platform technology.

Dr. Chen Yongqi told VCBeat that Resproly entered the market through its dry powder formulation platform, which boasts the highest technical barriers and aligns with the team’s core expertise, thereby establishing four mainstream platforms for inhalation therapy. In the future, Resproly will adopt a dual-engine R&D model driven by “high-end generics + innovative drugs” to break the near-monopoly held by foreign companies in existing dry powder inhaler products, while developing more high-quality innovative inhaled medications to benefit patients both in China and abroad.
