【Pharmaceutical Network Industry Dynamics] Another breakthrough has been reported in the field of innovation for domestically produced medical devices. On March 17, the website of the National Medical Products Administration announced that the registration application for Super Vision Technology, Inc.'s implantable ocular muscle neurostimulator had been approved for use in improving congenital horizontal nystagmus symptoms in patients aged 8 years and above.

Data show that the above-mentioned implantable ocular muscle neurostimulator, composed of a stimulator, receiving coil, electrode array, annular electrode, and internal magnet, is used in conjunction with specific external power supply equipment to improve congenital horizontal nystagmus symptoms in patients aged 8 years and above.

This product adopts implantable extraocular muscle neuromuscular stimulation technology, which improves horizontal nystagmus symptoms through electrical stimulation of the extraocular rectus muscles by electrodes. Compared with existing clinical treatment options, it features minimal local trauma, strong controllability, and stable therapeutic effects, making it a world-first innovation. The market launch of this product provides a new treatment approach for improving congenital horizontal nystagmus symptoms.

In recent years, under the continuous support of favorable national policies, China's medical device innovation achievements have been accelerating. According to statistics, so far 410 innovative medical device products have been approved for marketing, and only in March 2026, there have already been 3.

In addition to the aforementioned products, in March, the innovative product registration application for the implantable brain-computer interface hand motor function compensation system by Neuracle Technology (Shanghai) Co., Ltd. was also approved. This marks the world's first listing of a brain-computer interface medical device and signifies that the world’s first invasive brain-computer interface medical device has entered the clinical application stage. The product is suitable for patients with quadriplegia caused by cervical spinal cord injury, assisting in achieving hand grip functionality through a pneumatic glove device. Patients must meet the following criteria: aged between 18 and 60 years old, with C2-C6 cervical spinal cord injury graded A-C level quadriplegia, diagnosed for over a year, with stable condition for at least six months after standardized treatment, unable to perform hand grips, but retaining partial upper arm function. The product employs minimally invasive epidural implantation and wireless power supply communication technology. Clinical trial results show that participants using this product achieved significant improvement in hand grip ability, thereby enhancing their quality of life.

In addition, the innovative product registration application for the biodegradable PFO occluder system of Worry-Free Heartbeat Medical Technology (Shenzhen) Co., Ltd. was also approved in March. It is intended for patients aged 18 to 60 with patent foramen ovale (PFO) who have experienced cryptogenic stroke. After comprehensive evaluation to exclude other mechanisms causing stroke, it is considered that there may be a causal relationship between PFO and ischemic stroke, and the PFO has high-risk anatomical features (atrial septal aneurysm or significant right-to-left shunt). The decision to perform PFO closure should be made jointly by neurologists and cardiologists.

The three innovative breakthroughs in March 2026 are a vivid testament to the rapid advancement of China's medical device industry. In the future, with more innovative products entering the market, domestically produced medical devices will continue to empower clinical treatments, bring health benefits to patients, and drive China’s healthcare industry toward a new stage of higher-quality development.
