Israel, a Middle Eastern country with a population of less than 9 million, has gained global renown for its technological innovation and is hailed as the “Start-up Nation.” In 2019, Israel surpassed Japan, Sweden, and the United States to rank fifth in Bloomberg’s Innovation Index, while leading the world in R&D intensity with an investment of $12.7 billion (accounting for 4.3% of its GDP).

Life sciences is one of Israel’s most developed and highly commercialized industries, and the Israeli government is actively promoting innovation in this sector with the aim of establishing it as a world-renowned hub for innovation on par with Silicon Valley.

The largest sectors are medical devices and healthcare information technology, accounting for more than 65% of companies. In the medical device sector, Israeli scientists and engineers have integrated advanced technologies from the fields of electronics, communications, and optoelectronics to develop world-class innovative products in areas such as digital imaging, medical lasers, telemedicine, early diagnosis, and smart surgical equipment. More than 600 medical device exporters are engaged in various medical applications, including cardiovascular and peripheral vascular care, neurological and degenerative diseases, preventive and emergency medicine, critical care, women’s health, orthopedics and sports medicine, gastroenterology, infection control, ophthalmology, pain and wound management, oral and dental care, dermatology, and aesthetics.

At the 5th Future Healthcare Top 100 Conference this year, the China-Israel Chamber of Commerce will present ten innovative medical projects at the Global Project Roadshow on April 16 (14:00–16:00), followed by one-on-one matchmaking sessions to fully showcase the strengths of Israeli healthcare innovations and identify potential Chinese partners.
