On April 21, Alibaba Health held the “Tmall Good Medicine Brand Summit” in Hangzhou, where it joined forces with top 100 global pharmaceutical companies to establish the “Tmall Good Medicine Alliance.” Starting from the source of production, the Alliance will provide comprehensive quality assurance for medicines to online consumers across the entire supply chain. Tmall Good Medicine will offer its alliance members five platform-level services: an IP traffic-sharing platform under the “Tmall Good Medicine” brand, a digital marketing platform for pharmaceutical companies, a medication management service platform, a next-day delivery logistics platform for pharmaceuticals, and a charitable drug donation platform.

“Alibaba Health’s vision is to become a trusted expert in safeguarding the health of you and your family. The ‘Tmall Good Medicine Alliance’ brings together the most distinguished experts from the global pharmaceutical industry. Only by collaborating with the most professional partners can we deliver the most reliable medication services to consumers,” said Zhu Shunyan, Chairman and CEO of Alibaba Health, at the event. He further noted that for pharmaceutical brands, Tmall Good Medicine serves as an expert in the pharmaceutical e-commerce sector, leveraging its accumulated platform capabilities to support the healthy growth of pharmaceutical brands and achieve mutual benefit and win-win outcomes.

Building the “Tmall Good Medicine” Brand: Sharing Omni-Channel Resources with Pharmaceutical Companies

In March this year, the “Tmall Good Medicine” IP made its debut. A short film starring renowned actor Liu Peiqi, depicting the many difficulties parents face when purchasing medication, was broadcast on national television media including CCTV, Hunan Satellite TV, and Zhejiang Satellite TV, as well as displayed on outdoor advertisements in 60 cities across China. Previously, Tmall Good Medicine had established strategic partnerships with globally renowned pharmaceutical companies such as AstraZeneca, Roche, Sanofi, Bayer, UCB, Baiyunshan, Fresenius, Zhi’en, and Tongrentang, affixing the prominent “Tmall Good Medicine” label to drug product pages with assured source authenticity.

“We want to convey to consumers that any drug bearing the ‘Tmall Good Medicine’ label can be purchased with confidence,” said Shen Difan, Chief Operating Officer of Ali Health and Head of Tmall Pharmaceutical, at the press conference. He explained that the credibility behind the “Tmall Good Medicine” brand stems from five key pillars: direct sourcing guarantees from the world’s top 100 pharmaceutical companies; comprehensive platform coverage of nearly all drugs permitted for online sale; professional internet-based medication services; next-day delivery logistics in over 100 cities across China; and substantial subsidies provided directly by the platform to users.

Not stopping there, Alibaba Health will continue to increase its investment in the “Tmall Good Medicine” platform over the next few years. Member pharmaceutical companies of the Tmall Good Medicine Alliance will share the IP and omni-channel traffic resources brought by “Tmall Good Medicine.” The “Tmall Good Medicine” brand IP will not only reduce consumers’ decision-making costs but also lower patient education costs for pharmaceutical enterprises.

Empowered by Multiple Platform-Level Services: Customized Solutions for Pharmaceutical Brands

“Tmall Haoyao is an expert in facilitating the digital transformation and upgrading of the pharmaceutical industry, and even more so, a partner and friend working hand in hand with pharmaceutical companies,” said Shen Difan.

To this end, Tmall Good Medicine has opened up multiple platform-level services to alliance enterprises.

With guaranteed drug sourcing, professional medication services are equally essential. Tmall Good Medicine’s Medication Service Platform integrates a self-developed AI system for safe medication use, medication guidance from internet hospital physicians and pharmacists, and professional popular science content on home medication. On product pages, features such as medication knowledge, compatibility contraindications, package inserts, and drug traceability code services are provided. This ensures service support for online drug sales, elevating the safety of online-purchased medications to the standard of tertiary Grade A hospitals.

Leveraging the in-depth user services provided by its medication platform, Tmall Good Medicine has combined years of comprehensive consumer insights and accumulated operational resources to tailor a digital marketing platform specifically for pharmaceutical enterprise alliance members. The platform offers pharmaceutical brands a full suite of digital solutions, covering new product launches, omni-channel media placement, membership operations, and retail activation. This aims to help pharmaceutical companies better understand genuine consumer demands, establish an efficient omnichannel consumer operation system, and address practical challenges such as product fragmentation, inconsistent channel performance, and unmeasurable return on investment.

Furthermore, Tmall Good Medicine will collaborate with pharmaceutical companies in the alliance to carry out charitable drug donation programs. It will leverage its platform capabilities to optimize existing Patient Assistance Programs (PAPs), reduce patients’ costs for obtaining medications, and utilize various channels within the Alibaba ecosystem to increase public awareness of these charitable initiatives. Meanwhile, through the Alibaba Public Welfare Treasure fundraising platform, it will raise funds to combine quality medicines with financial aid, harnessing the power of philanthropy to make essential medications affordable for users and help improve their quality of life.

“Tmall Good Medicine is not only a brand IP but also a provider of digital solutions for pharmaceutical companies. We hope to see more pharmaceutical companies join the Tmall Good Medicine Alliance. While tapping into their own growth potential, we also aim to ensure that consumers in need can identify what constitutes quality medicines, and have access to affordable options,” said Shen Difan.
