High-end Medical Device R&D, Production, and Sales Company

VCBeat has learned that,Kailian Medical Technology (Shanghai) Co., Ltd. (“Kailian Medical”), a leading domestic developer of micro-dose drug infusion technologies, has recently completed a Series C financing round exceeding RMB 100 million. The lead investor was the renowned Chinese investment firm Oriental Fortune Capital, with follow-on investments from Qandao Investment Fund and existing shareholder STI Capital. Rayling Capital served as the financial advisor to assist Kailian Medical in this financing round.

Within less than five years of its establishment, Kailian Medical has leveraged a seasoned team with nearly two decades of expertise in medicine, engineering, and market operations. Centered on its proprietary micro-infusion and control technologies, and integrated with biosensors and internet-based healthcare solutions, the company has developed a closed-loop system tailored to the needs of patients with chronic diseases. This strategic expansion has fortified Kailian Medical’s position and established significant industry barriers in the field of diabetes and endocrinology medical devices.

Currently, Kailian Medical has successfully builtFive Core Product Pipelines, Including Diabetes Blood Glucose Management and Drug Infusion Pipeline, Pituitary Hormone Drug Infusion Pipeline, Chronic Disease Lifestyle Management Pipeline, Kailian Cloud Management Platform, and Micro-Dose Transdermal Technology Pipeline. Some of its products have successfully obtained national approval and been launched on the market, meeting the medication and disease management needs of customers in the target sectors.

Deeply Cultivating the Fields of Blood Glucose Management and Drug Infusion

According to the latest 2019 statistics from the International Diabetes Federation (IDF), the global number of diabetes patients aged 20–79 is estimated to have reached 463 million. Among Chinese adults aged 20–79, there are over 116 million diabetes patients. The market for drug delivery devices for diabetes has given rise to international giants such as Medtronic, Dexcom (NASDAQ: DXCM), and Insulet (NASDAQ: PODD).

The domestic market holds immense potential, as products have long remained in a phase of following and imitating imports, with few reliable, cost-effective options successfully launched. Meanwhile, the widespread adoption of internet and mobile communication technologies has raised consumer expectations for insulin pumps in terms of aesthetics, ease of management, and closed-loop glucose control.

The LePump® Insulin Pump Generation I and II products, developed by Kailian Medical, exemplify the strength of intelligent manufacturing in China and represent the latest international development trends (including color screen displays, cross-device data transmission and management, and closed-loop control). Their effectiveness in glycemic control and the safety of device usage have been confirmed in multicenter clinical studies led by renowned hospitals in China.

The first-generation Kailian LePump® insulin pump has been approved for market launch, significantly benefiting diabetic patients and healthcare professionals in China by providing a high-quality, affordable insulin pump through Chinese intelligent manufacturing.

Pioneering New Therapies in Growth, Development, and Fertility

Puberty is an inevitable stage in the transition from childhood to adulthood, representing the process by which a biological individual achieves sexual maturity and reproductive capacity. The onset of puberty is marked by the pulsatile release of gonadotropin-releasing hormone (GnRH) from the hypothalamus during sleep, which gradually establishes regular GnRH pulses. This, in turn, stimulates the pituitary gland to secrete luteinizing hormone (LH) and follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH), leading to the secretion of sex hormones and gametogenesis by the gonads, thereby constituting the feedback and negative feedback systems of the hypothalamic-pituitary-gonadal axis.

Abnormal pulsatile secretion of GnRH can lead to delayed puberty, hypogonadism, and even infertility. Among congenital disorders, idiopathic hypogonadotropic hypogonadism (IHH) is the most common. Acquired causes frequently include secondary central amenorrhea in women and polycystic ovary syndrome.

The Kailian Yinuo® Pituitary Hormone Pump, developed by Kailian Medical, enables continuous and effective subcutaneous pulsatile infusion of GnRH for conditions such as hypogonadotropic hypogonadism, hypothalamic amenorrhea, and polycystic ovary syndrome, mimicking the body’s normal physiological GnRH pulses.

As the currently leading global GnRH pulse therapy, it benefits males and females during puberty and reproductive age, aiding in the treatment of disorders related to the “hypothalamic-pituitary-gonadal axis” and helping over 100 million people achieve or improve their reproductive capacity.

Building a Development Landscape Centered on Micro-Drug Infusion and Chronic Disease Management

The launch and clinical application of Kailian Medical’s Kailian Le® insulin pump for diabetes and endocrinology, as well as the Kailian Yinuo® pituitary hormone pump, represent only the company’s initial foray into the field of micro-drug infusion. Kailian Medical is accelerating the research and development, clinical validation, and regulatory approval of multiple products in glucose management and drug delivery, including the InnoPen electronic insulin pen and the InnoTouch insulin patch pump. Furthermore, leveraging the Kailian Cloud Management Platform, the company is iteratively expanding its applications for integrated smart management of chronic diseases across hospital and community settings, as well as lifestyle management. Meanwhile, Kailian Medical is also deploying its next-generation microneedle transdermal drug delivery technologies into broader sectors, including medical transdermal drug administration and medical aesthetics.

In the coming years, Kailian Medical will launch a number of blockbuster micro-dosing therapeutic products and disease management systems to address current unmet clinical needs. Commenting on the success of this funding round, Huang Xiaomin, Founder of Kailian Medical, stated, “We extend our gratitude to both new and existing investors for their recognition and support of Kailian Medical’s growth journey. Since its inception, Kailian Medical has been committed to independent R&D and intelligent manufacturing in China, aiming to provide safe, effective, and affordable products for patients with chronic endocrine diseases. We are also pioneering an integrated smart chronic disease management model for both doctors and patients to improve quality of life. Following this financing round, Kailian Medical will further advance the commercialization of its marketed products while accelerating the development and launch of its pipeline candidates.”
