In November 2020, the National Medical Products Administration (NMPA) approved the first digital therapeutic product. However, China’s regulatory framework for digital therapeutics remains immature, characterized by unclear payers, incomplete approval and oversight mechanisms, and low public acceptance. There is an urgent need to explore a “Chinese-characteristic” approach and establish a development model for digital therapeutics that aligns with the country’s current realities.

Preparations Underway for China’s First Digital Therapeutics Industry Association

Promoting Industry Consensus: Based on practices in China, establish definitions, standards, and specifications for digital therapeutics tailored to specific markets, and promote the formation of industry consensus;
Promoting Chinese Practice: Adhering to relevant principles, explore pathways, identify case studies, and develop benchmarks to actively advance the practice of digital therapeutics in China;

Establish a dialogue mechanism: Establish a dialogue mechanism with government regulatory authorities to facilitate comprehensive exchanges on the progress and challenges in the field of digital therapeutics, and to convey the latest policy directions;
