Recently, to promote innovative development in the insurance industry and accelerate the integration of insurtech with the sector, thereby enabling the insurance industry to better serve national economic development and social livelihood initiatives, the Beijing leg of the 2021 Insurtech Innovation Competition, initiated by VCBeat and co-hosted by Swiss Re, was successfully held. Zepp Health stood out among 46 companies and teams with its outstanding performance, winning third place and advancing to the national finals.

Zepp Health is a one-stop health service platform under Huami Technology (NYSE: ZEPP) that integrates device monitoring, sales support, health management, product customization, and medical services. Leveraging massive big data and advanced algorithms, Zepp Health has developed a scoring system to quantify users’ health status and generates personalized health reports. Based on these insights, the platform engages with customers to facilitate proactive health management. This approach transforms the traditional insurance marketing model from sales-oriented to customer-service-oriented, thereby enhancing customer experience, strengthening the customer acquisition capabilities of insurance agents, and reducing claim rates for insurance companies.

Huami Technology currently owns two proprietary brands, AMAZFIT and ZEPP, and has initially established a comprehensive health and fitness ecosystem. This ecosystem includes the ZEPP health management platform; wearable devices such as smart bands, smartwatches, and sports earphones; as well as fitness- and health-related products like treadmills, weighing scales, body fat scales, and footwear and apparel accessories. As of 2021, Huami Technology’s smart devices had entered more than 70 countries and regions worldwide, with cumulative global sales exceeding 120 million units.

Huami Technology’s Personal Activity Intelligence (PAI) health assessment system can evaluate the impact of exercise on cardiac health based on physiological metrics collected by wearable devices, particularly heart rate data. It also assesses cardiorespiratory endurance using indicators such as biological age and maximal oxygen uptake (VO2 max). A research white paper published by Gen Re, a global reinsurance giant, indicates that the PAI health assessment system can be used to inform life insurance underwriting decisions. In particular, the data it generates on physical activity and cardiorespiratory endurance provide a novel reference basis for assessing mortality risk in life insurance underwriting.

Currently, Huami Technology has partnered with ZhongAn Insurance to customize medical insurance products based on Huami’s Health Score system. Previously, Prudential plc also collaborated with Huami Technology to provide health management services to users in 11 Asian markets. In the future, Zepp Health will continue to deepen its engagement in insurtech innovation, working with multiple partners to explore new products and models integrating “insurance + smart wearables + health management services,” thereby facilitating the strategic transformation of the insurance industry.
