Zhang Zhiyuan, Academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering and Standing Committee Member of the Division of Medical and Health Sciences; Member of the Academic Division of the Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences. He is the Guangqi Chair Professor at Shanghai Jiao Tong University, Chief Physician, and Doctoral Supervisor. He served as the President of Shanghai Ninth People’s Hospital, Shanghai Jiao Tong University School of Medicine, from 1998 to 2014. Currently, he is the Discipline Leader of Stomatology (a National Key Discipline), Director of the National Center for Stomatology, Director of the National Clinical Research Center for Oral Diseases, Director of the Shanghai Key Laboratory of Stomatology, and Director of the Shanghai Key Clinical Medicine Center. He serves as Honorary President of the Chinese Stomatological Association, Executive Director of the China Anti-Cancer Association, Honorary Chairman of the Head and Neck Oncology Committee of the China Anti-Cancer Association, and President of the Shanghai Association of Senior Retired Experts. He is a Fellow of the International College of Dentists and the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh. He has been appointed as a Visiting Professor at Osaka Dental University in Japan and Air Force Medical University. He is the Editor-in-Chief of the national 13th Five-Year Plan textbooks Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery and Stomatology, Editor-in-Chief of Shanghai Journal of Stomatology, and Associate Editor-in-Chief of Clinical and Experimental Dental Research.

Long-term engagement in clinical and basic research on oral and maxillofacial tumors and vascular malformations. Has published 368 academic papers (158 indexed by SCI). Notably, in recent years, completed China’s first prospective randomized Phase III clinical trial on induction chemotherapy for locally advanced oral squamous cell carcinoma, with results published in the Journal of Clinical Oncology. Recognized as a Highly Cited Chinese Scholar for six consecutive years. Served as Editor-in-Chief for 14 monographs, Associate Editor-in-Chief for 5, and contributed to 12 others (including 2 in English). As principal investigator, led more than 20 ministerial- and commission-level projects, including the National “863” Program, the National Key Technologies R&D Program during the 11th Five-Year Plan period, two key projects and five general projects funded by the National Natural Science Foundation of China. As the primary contributor, received two Second Prizes of the National Scientific and Technological Progress Award, one Second Prize of the National Teaching Achievement Award, one Second Prize of the Natural Science Award nominated by the Ministry of Education for the National Science and Technology Award, among more than 10 other awards.

Honored as “Expert with Outstanding Contributions among Middle-aged and Young Professionals” by the Ministry of Health. Recipient of the Ho Leung Ho Lee Prize for Progress in Science and Technology, the National Innovation Excellence Award, the title of National Outstanding Scientific and Technological Worker, and one of Shanghai’s Top Ten Scientific and Technological Elites. Has supervised 75 master’s and doctoral students, among whom include: one recipient of the National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars and Changjiang Scholar; one Chief Scientist of a Major Research and Development Project funded by the Ministry of Science and Technology; one Young Changjiang Scholar; one awardee of the China Association for Science and Technology’s “Young Elite Scientists Sponsorship Program”; two Shanghai Excellent Academic Leaders; one Shanghai Young Scientific and Technological Talent; one first-prize and one second-prize winner of the Shanghai Silver Snake Award. To date, 14 former students have been appointed as Doctoral Supervisors at Shanghai Jiao Tong University School of Medicine.
