He currently serves as a member of the Committee on Education, Science, Culture, Health and Sports of the 13th National People’s Congress; President of the China Anti-Cancer Association; Vice President of the Asia Pacific Association of Gastroenterology; Dean of Xijing Hospital of Digestive Diseases, Air Force Medical University; Director of the State Key Laboratory of Cancer Biology; Director of the National Clinical Research Center for Digestive Diseases; and Director of the National Drug Clinical Trial Institution. He previously served as Vice President of the Chinese Academy of Engineering; President of the Fourth Military Medical University; Chairman of the Chinese Society of Gastroenterology; and Chair of the 2013 World Congress of Gastroenterology. He was a representative to the 14th National Congress of the Communist Party of China, a deputy to the 11th and 13th National People’s Congresses, a National Outstanding Communist Party Member, a National Outstanding Sci-Tech Worker, and a recipient of the first batch of the National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars and the first batch of Chang Jiang Scholar Distinguished Professorships.
He has long been engaged in clinical and basic research on digestive system diseases and is dedicated to macro-strategic studies on medical development. He pioneered the theory of Integrative Medicine on the international stage and put it into practice. He has successively undertaken major research projects, including serving as the Chief Scientist for the National 973 Program, the National 863 Program, the National Key Technologies R&D Program, the Major New Drug Creation Program, the National Natural Science Foundation projects, and major advisory projects for the Chinese Academy of Engineering.His accolades include the National Award for Scientific and Technological Progress Innovation Team, one First Prize, one Second Prize, and one Third Prize of the National Award for Scientific and Technological Progress, one National Award for Technological Invention, two First Prizes of the Military Scientific and Technological Progress Award, and two First Prizes of the Shaanxi Provincial Science and Technology Award. He serves as a member of the National Textbook Committee, Editor-in-Chief of the National Digital Textbooks for Higher Medical Education (53 volumes), Editor-in-Chief of the Advanced Readings in Basic Medicine Series (10 volumes), and Editor-in-Chief of the Frontiers in Cancer Research Series (18 volumes).He has successively served as an editorial board member, associate editor, or editor-in-chief for 13 international journals, including *Nature Reviews Gastroenterology & Hepatology*, *Gut*, and *Hepatology*.
