Fangzhou Jianke and Zelgen Biopharma Announce Strategic Collaboration to Advance 'Oncology as a Chronic Disease' Management Solutions

Jun 30, 2021 15:28 CST Updated 15:28

On June 29, Fangzhou Jianke Group, a leading smart health service platform in China, officially entered into a strategic partnership with Zeltis Pharma, a pioneer in the research and development of innovative drugs. Leveraging Zeltis Pharma’s R&D strengths in innovative therapeutics and Fangzhou Jianke’s digital healthcare platform, the two parties will focus on comprehensive lifecycle management for liver cancer patients. They will jointly explore integrated solutions for the chronic disease management of oncology, covering online diagnosis and treatment via internet hospitals, chronic disease management, pharmaceutical services, and insurance payment mechanisms, thereby extending the benefits of diverse, personalized digital healthcare services to more patients.

Notably, this marks the third strategic partnership that Fangzhou Jianke has established with renowned domestic and international pharmaceutical companies within six months, with its covered disease areas and scope of collaboration continuously expanding and diversifying.

Relying on the Smart Health Service Platform

Expanding the Breadth and Depth of Medical Services

To some extent, the upgraded partnership between Ark Health and Zeltigen Pharmaceuticals is a natural progression.

“Chinese patients’ needs are shifting from high-quality medicines to diversified services covering the entire chain of prevention, diagnosis, treatment, and rehabilitation,” said Xie Fangmin, Founder, Chairman, and CEO of Fangzhou Jianke. As one of the earliest companies in China to enter the smart health industry, Fangzhou Jianke has been deeply engaged in the internet healthcare sector for over a decade. Adhering to its patient-centric and technology-driven philosophy, the company has built an online real-time interactive consultation platform connecting patients, specialists, and physicians. Through this platform, doctors can quickly access patients’ diagnostic and treatment data and develop more targeted care plans based on changes in their condition, thereby breaking through constraints of time and setting.

Ark Health’s uniquely advantageous integrated internet healthcare service platform is precisely the optimal choice for Zelgen Pharmaceuticals’ strategic layout in the health services industry.

“Zelgen will not only be an R&D-focused enterprise in the future, but also a pharmaceutical company truly dedicated to serving the health of the Chinese population,” said Sheng Zelin, Chairman and General Manager of Zelgen Pharmaceuticals. Zelgen is currently actively building an internet-based health services team. Leveraging this strategic partnership and relying on Ark Health’s industry-leading smart health service platform, the breadth and depth of Zelgen’s services are sure to be effectively expanded and enhanced, thereby helping to further improve patients’ medication experience and adherence.

It is understood that Fangzhou Jianke is one of the few enterprises in China currently covering the entire service chain of internet healthcare. It has several main businesses, including mobile diagnosis and treatment, chronic disease management, pharmaceutical services, health popularization, and insurance payment. It continuously optimizes digital integrated health services from aspects such as doctor education, patient education, grassroots benefit services, and medical big data. Relying on its multiple internet hospitals, Fangzhou Jianke can also provide patients with full-cycle services, including remote follow-up, rational drug use, nutritional prescriptions, and rehabilitation knowledge, through a three-tier medical team composed of doctor assistants, in-house doctors, and specially hired medical expert consultants.

Joining Forces to Explore Solutions for the "Chronic Management of Cancer"

Supporting the Construction of "Healthy China 2030"

“Prior to establishing a strategic partnership, Fangzhou Jianke and Zeltis Pharma had already maintained long-term and close collaborative ties across multiple fields,” stated Xie Fangmin. As a leader in China’s innovative drug R&D sector, Zeltis Pharma has for many years focused on the development of novel chemical and biological drugs in oncology and other therapeutic areas. By leveraging their complementary strengths in internet healthcare and their highly aligned operational philosophies, Fangzhou Jianke and Zeltis Pharma are poised to become ideal partners in exploring the “chronic disease management model for cancer.”

Recently, the latest global cancer data released by the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) showed that there were 19.29 million new cancer cases worldwide in 2020, among which China had 4.57 million new cancer cases, accounting for 23.7% of the global total. Improving early-stage cancer screening and comprehensive management to enhance cancer survival rates has become an urgent health and livelihood issue that needs to be addressed in China.

“As technology and medical standards advance, ‘living with cancer’ will become the norm for tumor patients,” said Sheng Zelin. On June 9, donafenib, an innovative drug developed by Zeltan Pharma for first-line treatment of liver cancer, received approval. It is the first domestically produced anti-liver cancer new drug to demonstrate superior survival benefits and safety compared to sorafenib in a large-scale, head-to-head, monotherapy Phase III registrational clinical trial worldwide, providing Chinese patients with advanced liver cancer with a better treatment option. “Moving forward, Zeltan Pharma and Fangzhou Jianke will engage in comprehensive collaboration around liver cancer treatment, further exploring solutions for ‘chronic disease management’ of cancer and jointly promoting the realization of the ‘Healthy China 2030’ goals.”

From Xie Fangmin’s perspective, creatively applying chronic disease management experience to the full-cycle model of cancer prevention and control, thereby achieving chronic disease-style management of tumors, is “something that Ark Health can and must do.” He introduced that, as one of the earliest companies in China to establish a presence in chronic disease management, Ark Health’s Chronic Disease Management Center has taken an industry-leading position in platform development, technology enablement, and population served. This has been achieved through measures such as professional team management, AI-driven empowerment, big data integration, multi-disease stratification, standardized services, and innovative insurance payment models.
