Single-cell technology is one of the most disruptive and milestone breakthroughs in life science in recent years. It has deepened human understanding of organisms to the single-cell level, fundamentally changing the historical limitation of obtaining only average signal expression from cell populations, and significantly improving the resolution and accuracy of cellular detection.
Mass Cytometry is currently one of the most advanced single-cell multiparametric analysis technologies.
Mass cytometry is a flow cytometry technique that employs mass spectrometry principles for multiparametric single-cell analysis. It inherits the high-throughput analytical capabilities of conventional flow cytometry while leveraging the high-resolution detection of time-of-flight mass spectrometry. This technology liberates researchers from the constraints of fluorophore selection and compensation procedures, delivering qualitative improvements in both detection dimensionality and resolution.

In 2011, mass cytometry was named the “most-watched single-cell technology” by *Nature Methods*; that same year, it was also recognized as one of the “Top 10 Scientific Innovations of the Year” by *The Scientist* magazine.
Mass cytometry, characterized by its high-dimensional and high-precision capabilities, is a powerful tool for deciphering the complex immune system. This technology holds immense potential for application in multiple fields, including hematologic diseases, tumor immunotherapy, stem cell translational research, and the development of related therapeutics. Its robust technical advantages position mass cytometry with broad prospects for the development of diagnostic products.
The U.S. National Cancer Institute included it in its guidelines for clinical trials of cancer immunotherapies in 2018. Today, the top ten pharmaceutical companies worldwide have all begun using mass cytometry for companion diagnostic evaluation and the development of innovative therapies.
