Connection is a force.
In the past, hospitals operated in isolation, expanding rapidly within established regulatory frameworks but lacking interconnectivity, which hindered the development of regional healthcare systems. Similarly, hospital departments functioned independently, each relying on its own suppliers, with no integration between data systems; every data core remained an isolated silo.
At the 2021 China Hospital Information Network Conference (CHIMA), Alibaba Cloud, together with numerous enterprises and hospital experts, sought to provide answers through “connectivity.” In addition to the main exhibition booths of Alibaba Cloud, DingTalk, and Alipay, Alibaba Cloud also invited GuKan, QingGanLan, Putao Technology, Kejin Software, Juding Medical, and Bianque Emergency Rescue to exhibit jointly.
At the conference, Alibaba Cloud aligned its initiatives with the strategic framework outlined in “Healthy China 2030,” focusing on three key areas: smart public health, smart healthcare, and smart primary care. Under this top-level design, Alibaba Cloud has built a “high bridge” of connectivity, providing comprehensive solutions for hospitals and regional smart healthcare development.

On the afternoon of July 30, the Sub-forum on Regional Smart Healthcare Construction, part of the Smart Health Digital Development Forum hosted by Alibaba Cloud, conducted an in-depth discussion on hospital connectivity issues. During the event, Xie Wei, Vice President of Alibaba Cloud and General Manager of the Healthcare Industry; Xi Biao, Professor at Hebei Medical University and Executive Director of the Chief Expert Committee of the Hebei Provincial Think Tank (Health); Zheng Fangyou, Solution Architect for Alibaba Cloud Wuying Cloud Computer; Wang Zhe, Solutions Director at Life Singularity (Beijing) Technology Co., Ltd.; Li Ziqing, Product Director at Beijing Dream Tianmen Co., Ltd.; and Zhou Zhihui, AI Product Solution Architect at Alibaba DAMO Academy, all shared their insights. Yu Guangjun, President of Shanghai Children’s Hospital/Children’s Hospital Affiliated to Shanghai Jiao Tong University, and Yin Weidong, Director and Party Secretary of the Nanjing Health Information Center, joined remotely to contribute recommendations for the development of regional smart healthcare.

Xie Wei, Vice President of Alibaba Cloud and General Manager of the Healthcare Industry Division, delivered the opening address at the conference. He stated, “Alibaba has made significant efforts in three key areas: health insurance, health commission services, and pharmacist services. Moving forward, Alibaba will further intensify its investments in five strategic domains: smart healthcare, public health, primary care, regional health informatization, and new infrastructure. Underpinning these initiatives, technologies such as artificial intelligence, big data, 5G, and the Internet of Things (IoT) will serve as our powerful tools.”

Xi Biao, Professor at Hebei Medical University, Chief Expert and Executive Director of the Hebei Provincial Think Tank (Health)“Implementing the General Practice System and Improving County-Level Service Systems” was discussed. He stated, “To strengthen primary healthcare, first, we must improve the general practice system, which is a crucial measure for promoting health for all; second, we must establish a support system for general practitioners to provide policy guarantees for the general practice system; and third, we must leverage information technology to accelerate the development of county-level medical consortia, thereby providing foundational support for the system.”

Yu Guangjun, President of Shanghai Children's Hospital / Children's Hospital Affiliated to Shanghai Jiao Tong UniversityHe joined the forum via video link and introduced the development of the Internet-based Pediatric Medical Consortium Platform. He stated, “The connection between children’s hospitals and pediatric departments in other hospitals has primarily relied on loose technical collaboration. The internet-based approach offers relatively lower construction costs and faster implementation. Subsequently, we carried out internal intelligent process reengineering and external business collaboration, establishing four centers to optimize pediatric services and promoting regional management of high-risk infants through multidisciplinary cooperation. The development of the Internet-based Pediatric Medical Consortium Platform is not the result of any single initiative, but rather the synergy of numerous efforts, requiring hospitals to make adjustments based on their specific circumstances.”

Yin Weidong, Director and Party Secretary of the Nanjing Health Information Center, who has been fighting on the front lines of the epidemic response, also delivered his speech via video. In his concluding remarks, he stated, “Smart healthcare should primarily serve the public by enabling more precise diagnoses for physicians and reducing patients’ waiting times for medical consultations. Within our region, this will further strengthen Nanjing’s core position and continuously improve public satisfaction with healthcare services.”
