The macro backdrop of the post-pandemic era, coupled with the inaugural year of the 14th Five-Year Plan, has further fueled the “development journey” of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM); meanwhile, the surge in digital technologies such as the Internet of Things (IoT), the internet, big data, and artificial intelligence has provided a potent catalyst for the innovative development of TCM.

By applying digital technologies such as the Internet of Things (IoT) and the internet to various aspects of healthcare—including disease prevention, TCM diagnosis and treatment, pharmaceutical services, and post-consultation management—the efficiency of TCM medical services has been enhanced, the diagnostic and treatment burden on physicians has been reduced, and patients’ healthcare experiences have been significantly improved. It is important to note that the integration of emerging technologies into Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) should be approached with case-by-case analysis rather than a “one-size-fits-all” strategy, avoiding the forced migration of clinical scenarios that are inherently more suitable for offline settings to online platforms.

The integration of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) with digital technology is an inevitable move in line with the trends of the times, while the combination of TCM and Western medicine is a natural outcome of the convergence between Chinese and foreign medical practices. The approach of “integrating and concurrently applying TCM and Western medicine” adopted during the COVID-19 pandemic control serves as a vivid demonstration of TCM’s principle of “preserving its essence while upholding integrity and pursuing innovation.”

An industry discourse on the modernization trajectory of traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) and the future prospects of integrated Chinese and Western medicine is now taking shape. On the 27th and 28th of this month,The 2021 Western Smart Healthcare Industry Summit, themed “Ecological Integration, Co-Creating a Winning Future,” hosted by the China Pharmaceutical Enterprise Management Association, co-organized by the Chengdu High-Tech Zone Administrative Committee, and undertaken by AstraZeneca and EYJ Manager, will be grandly launched in the Chengdu High-Tech Zone. As one of the summit’s events, the Win-Win Future Industry Forum, themed “TCM Innovation and Integration of Traditional Chinese and Western Medicine,” will be held on the afternoon of the 28th.At this sub-forum, AstraZeneca will invite cross-sector partners from government, industry, academia, research, healthcare, and investment communities to deeply connect and aggregate multi-party resources through offline roadshows, interpretations by authoritative experts, and roundtable discussions. This initiative aims to promote the integration of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) and Western medicine, and to jointly build a smart healthcare ecosystem platform characterized by the combination of TCM and Western medicine.
