From October 13 to 16, the 85th China Medical Equipment (Autumn) Fair (hereinafter referred to as “CMEF”) was held at the Shenzhen World Exhibition & Convention Center (Bao’an District). As the “technological bellwether” of the global medical device industry, the event not only attracted academic experts from both domestic and international arenas but also drew numerous leading medical device companies from around the world to exhibit.

Jiangsu Apon Medical Technology Co., Ltd., a leading enterprise in the comfortable smart medical device industry, showcased its full-course diagnosis and treatment product ecosystem for pain management, as well as airway monitoring and nursing solutions at CMEF. Among them, new products such as portable electric infusion pumps, pain management information systems, anesthesia depth monitors, chronic pain treatment systems, and vital sign sleep detection systems attracted countless attention and were highly concerned by industry professionals.

Innovative Products Enhance Industry Ecosystem Layout

As a national high-tech enterprise specializing in the research, development, production, and sales of medical devices in the fields of pain management and nasal upper airway management, Jiangsu Apon Medical Technology Co., Ltd. has established a comprehensive product ecosystem covering all stages of diagnosis, treatment, nursing, and information services, along with related products, within its primary business segment of pain management. This ecosystem addresses both acute and chronic pain conditions, including postoperative analgesia, labor analgesia, and cancer pain management.

At this exhibition, Jiangsu Apon Medical Technology Co., Ltd. also presented its comprehensive product portfolio, including electronic infusion pumps, microcomputer-controlled infusion pumps, microcomputer-controlled chemotherapy infusion pumps, pain management information system software, obstetric labor and delivery information management system software, depth of anesthesia monitors, and chronic pain treatment systems.

From the perspective of relevant executives at Apon Medical, pain management is not merely about providing analgesic products; rather, it involves implementing networked and platform-based management of analgesic drug infusion through a more comprehensive, end-to-end product and service system. This approach aims to enhance pain management capabilities across healthcare institutions and support the development of smart healthcare systems. Meanwhile, in light of its aforementioned experience in pain management and the significant pressure on hospital bed availability, Apon Medical is collaborating with professional medical institutions to jointly explore the establishment of safe and efficient home-based analgesic drug infusion systems and the application of collaborative information management frameworks.

Among them, innovative products showcased at CMEF, such as the depth-of-anesthesia monitor and chronic pain treatment system, attracted significant attention from many attendees. Taking the depth-of-anesthesia monitor as an example, this product consists of a depth-of-anesthesia monitoring device and disposable non-invasive EEG sensors. By capturing electroencephalographic (EEG) activity 2,000 times per second via dedicated EEG sensors and performing precise calculations on EEG signals using an adaptive neuro-fuzzy logic computation system, the product intuitively represents the depth-of-anesthesia index on a scale of 0–100.

Also drawing significant industry attention was Apon Medical’s exhibition of its upper airway management products for the nasal cavity—the disease-specific, full-cycle nasal care solution.

Apon Medical “Full-Cycle Nasal Care Solution by Disease Type”

In recent years, following the boom in consumer healthcare markets such as ophthalmology and dentistry, nasal care is also ushering in a period of development opportunity. Epidemiological survey data indicate that the prevalence of allergic rhinitis in China is 17.6%, while the prevalence of chronic sinusitis is approximately 8%. Based on these figures, it is estimated that there are around 240 million patients with allergic rhinitis and 110 million patients with chronic sinusitis in China. However, the consultation rate stands at only about 7%, indicating substantial room for increased penetration and immense market potential.

To address the use of different types of rhinitis and disease stages, Apon Medical has innovatively developed isotonic physiological seawater nasal care sprays, hypertonic buffered seawater nasal care sprays, weakly acidic buffered physiological seawater nasal care sprays, as well as dedicated constant-temperature heaters that can be used with nasal care sprays. These products are designed to meet the personalized and precise treatment needs of patients with various forms of rhinitis.

Cutting-Edge Technology Leads Industry Development

According to a relevant executive at Apon Medical, the continuous enrichment and refinement of the company’s product ecosystem are inseparable from its sustained investment in R&D and innovation. It is reported that several of Apon Medical’s ongoing research projects have achieved breakthrough progress this year, holding promise for better addressing unmet clinical needs.

This August, Apon Medical announced that its "Portable Electric Infusion Pump" had received registration approval from the National Medical Products Administration (NMPA). Developed by Apon Medical, this medical device is designed for continuous, intermittent, and pulsed drug infusion. It supports multiple administration modes, including continuous infusion, pulsed infusion, patient-controlled analgesia (PCA), and a combined mode of "continuous + pulsed + PCA," offering users flexibility in selection and adjustment. Reportedly, this product is the first true pulsed infusion device in China and the first diagnostic and therapeutic solution specifically indicated for labor analgesia.

Furthermore, Jiangsu Apon Medical Technology Co., Ltd. was granted an invention patent for “A Method for Pain Assessment Based on Facial Expressions” this August, marking a breakthrough in the field of pain assessment. It is understood that current clinical pain assessment has long relied heavily on subjective patient reports and clinician judgment, lacking scientific and sufficient objective quantification, which severely restricts clinical diagnosis and treatment of pain.

The intensive rollout of new technologies and products by Apon Medical is attributable to its market demand-driven R&D strategy, as well as its sustained R&D investment and accumulation. According to data disclosed by Apon Medical, the company’s R&D expenditure reached RMB 13.5811 million in the first half of 2021, representing a year-on-year increase of 32.38%. As of June 30, 2021, Apon Medical had been granted 87 patents, firmly securing core technologies related to its main business operations. These included 14 invention patents, 48 utility model patents, and 25 design patents. In addition, the company had registered 42 software copyrights and works of authorship.

“In terms of our R&D system, we aim to establish a closed-loop mechanism that continuously empowers the development of new technologies and products through the ‘science–technology–product–brand’ framework,” said a representative from Jiangsu Apon Medical Technology Co., Ltd. The company currently adopts a product manager model, leveraging preliminary market research, feedback from patients and physicians, and insights into cutting-edge industry technologies to deeply uncover unmet market needs. Guided by these insights, Apon Medical’s R&D team carries out specialized development and implementation.

Analysts point out that for medical device companies, the foundation of their corporate growth lifecycle is R&D driven by market demand, thereby achieving breakthroughs from 0 to 1. The central trunk represents the industrial translation of technological achievements, ultimately realizing scaled-up expansion from 1 to 100 at the peripheral end. By showcasing its full-course diagnosis and treatment product ecosystem for pain management, as well as airway monitoring and nursing solutions at CMEF, Jiangsu Apon Medical Technology Co., Ltd. has demonstrated its consistent independent R&D and innovation capabilities, positioning it to continue leading innovative development in the comfortable intelligent healthcare industry.
