Pioneering China's Digital Therapeutics: First-Ever Innovation Summit and Post-Diagnosis Disease Management Competition Announced

How is the digital therapeutics trend faring now?

Judging from investment and financing data, taking the digital health investment and financing data in May 2021 as an example, digital therapeutics, one of the main investment directions in the field of digital health, performed remarkably. A total of 20 financing events occurred, with the total financing amount exceeding US$1.233 billion. Due to four financing deals each exceeding US$100 million, the financing amount in the digital therapeutics sector in May increased by 516% compared to April.

From the perspective of industry development, influenced by the COVID-19 pandemic, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) and the FDA jointly issued the “Enforcement Policy for Digital Health Devices for Treating Psychiatric Disorders During the Coronavirus Disease 2019 Pandemic” in 2020. This policy primarily relaxed approval requirements for digital therapeutics targeting mental health conditions. However, other categories of digital therapeutics, such as Livongo’s low-risk digital therapeutics for chronic disease management, also effectively received emergency authorization.

Against this backdrop, on October 26–27, Probe Capital and Jianhai Technology will jointly host the prelude event to the VB100·2021 China Digital Therapeutics Conference—“Exploring the Future of Health: The First China Digital Therapeutics Innovation Summit and the Finals of the First Post-Consultation Disease Management and Digital Therapeutics Innovation and Entrepreneurship Competition”—at the Le Méridien Hangzhou Binjiang Hotel. As part of the VB100·2021 China Digital Therapeutics Conference series, this joint event hosted by Probe Capital and Jianhai Technology will primarily showcase, through a closed-door meeting, an innovation summit, and a competition final, the vision and determination of Probe Capital and Jianhai Technology to embrace digital transformation under the concept of “from connectivity to diagnosis and treatment.”

Under the guidance of the People’s Government of Binjiang District, Hangzhou, and hosted by Probe Capital and Jianhai Technology, with Shengshi Consulting as the organizer, this event marks China’s first national summit and innovation & entrepreneurship competition dedicated to the digital therapeutics sector, bringing together industry stakeholders and setting the direction for industry trends.

This summit focuses on the field of digital therapeutics, bringing together stakeholders from government, industry, investment, enterprises, and clinical practice both in China and abroad. We have specially invited over 30 clinical experts and more than 50 leading industry figures to share their insights, gathering over 300 industry professionals for in-depth discussions on sector development.

Following the summit, the finals of “TanJian Future – China’s First Post-Diagnosis Disease Management and Digital Therapeutics Innovation and Entrepreneurship Competition,” co-initiated by Probe Capital and Jianhai Technology, will commence.

This competition, the first of its kind in China focused specifically on digital therapeutics, primarily seeks projects across the country that leverage digital means for post-diagnosis disease management and intervention, or are related to digital therapeutics. To enhance public awareness of digital therapeutics, the organizing committee has also organized a series of forums on digital therapeutics to jointly discuss issues such as market development and practical implementation.

Since the recruitment launch in June, nearly 100 pioneering companies in the digital therapeutics field have registered. After preliminary review by the competition organizing committee and four rounds of semifinal competitions,Twenty projects advanced to the final round. The finalist projects covered areas such as chronic disease management, oncology, stroke, mental health, weight management, and pain relief.

It is reported that,The competition will award prize money totaling millions of yuan to the winning projects. Furthermore, backed by numerous partner investment institutions and giants in the medical industry, the competition will significantly increase the exposure of these projects in the capital market and enhance the efficiency of financing and investment.

With many top contenders in the finals, it remains to be seen who will take home the million-dollar prize.
