12th China (Taizhou) International Medical Expo Kicks Off, Showcasing Innovation and Driving Health City Development
On October 23, the opening ceremony of the 12th China (Taizhou) International Medicine Expo was held at the Exhibition Center of China Medical City in Taizhou. Chen Zhu, Vice Chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People’s Congress and Chairman of the Chinese Peasants and Workers Democratic Party Central Committee, delivered a speech via video link and announced the opening of the expo. Speeches were also given by Chen Xingying, Vice Governor of Jiangsu Province; Lu Pengqi, Member of the Leading Party Members Group and Vice President of the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade; and Sun Xianze, President of the Chinese Pharmaceutical Association. Zhu Lifan, Secretary of the Taizhou Municipal Party Committee, delivered a welcome address, while Wan Wenhua, Deputy Secretary of the Municipal Party Committee and Acting Mayor, presided over the opening ceremony.
The current Medical Expo is hosted by the China Chamber of International Commerce and the China Association of Chinese Medicine, organized by the Taizhou Municipal People’s Government and the Jiangsu Provincial Council for the Promotion of International Trade (CCPIT), and jointly supported by the Chinese Medical Association, the Chinese Pharmaceutical Association, the National Institutes for Food and Drug Control, the China Institute of Veterinary Drug Control, as well as the Jiangsu Provincial Development and Reform Commission, Department of Science and Technology, Department of Industry and Information Technology, Department of Human Resources and Social Security, Department of Commerce, Health Commission, Administration for Market Regulation, Medical Products Administration, and Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine.
Centered on the theme of “Focusing on Industrial Frontiers and Promoting Innovative Development,” the conference established an international platform for exchange and cooperation in the pharmaceutical and general health industries. Through diverse formats—including policy seminars, high-level industry forums, cutting-edge technology promotions, innovative product exhibitions, talent exchanges, and roadshows—the event further aggregated global pharmaceutical innovation resources and top-tier talent to accelerate the development of the biopharmaceutical and health sectors.
Chen Zhu, Vice Chairperson of the Standing Committee of the National People’s Congress and Chairman of the Central Committee of the Chinese Peasants and Workers Democratic Party, delivered a speech via remote video link and announced the opening.
In his address, Chen Zhu pointed out that the Fifth Plenary Session of the 19th Central Committee of the Communist Party of China proposed to comprehensively advance the construction of a “Healthy China” and to build a “Healthy China” by 2035, which has charted the course for the future development of the pharmaceutical, medical, and health sectors. In the face of new circumstances and new missions, as the first national-level pharmaceutical high-tech zone in China and the only biopharmaceutical industrial park jointly established by a national ministry and a provincial government, China Medical City must build on this new starting point, closely align with its strategic positioning of being “No. 1 in China and Renowned Worldwide,” adhere to an innovation-led strategy, and strive to serve as a model for innovation and a vanguard of high-quality development.
Address by Chen Xingying, Vice Governor of Jiangsu Provincial People's Government
Ms. Chen Xingying, on behalf of the People’s Government of Jiangsu Province, extended warm congratulations on the successful convening of the conference. She pointed out that China Medical City, as the “gold-standard brand” of Taizhou’s biopharmaceutical industry, has achieved one breakthrough after another in “Medical City Innovation” and “Medical City Speed,” demonstrating strong momentum in innovation-driven, endogenous growth, and sound, rapid development.
Address by Lu Pengqi, Member of the Party Leadership Group and Vice President of the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade
Lu Pengqi stated that the China Medical Expo has been successfully held for eleven consecutive sessions and has now become a global annual gathering for the pharmaceutical industry, as well as a “barometer” for the development of China’s pharmaceutical sector. He expressed hope that participants would fully leverage the platform offered by the Expo to engage in in-depth exchanges and dialogue, explore cooperation opportunities, and jointly pursue development, thereby contributing wisdom and strength to promoting innovative development in the global pharmaceutical and health industries and building a global community of health for all. The China Council for the Promotion of International Trade (CCPIT) will continue to support the innovative development of the Taizhou Medical Expo, facilitating platforms and opportunities for exchange and cooperation between Chinese and foreign pharmaceutical enterprises, and driving the achievement of more practical outcomes.
Address by Sun Xianze, Chairman of the Chinese Pharmaceutical Association
Sun Xianze stated that he would continue to deepen cooperation with China Medical City in Taizhou, jointly focusing on resolving critical bottlenecks in core technologies, and continuously enhancing the capability of Chinese pharmaceutical enterprises to tackle key technical challenges. He emphasized unwaveringly implementing the new development philosophy, increasing investment in scientific and technological innovation, accelerating the transformation of scientific and technological achievements, and facilitating China Medical City’s full integration into the integrated development of the Yangtze River Delta region. By combining the organizational, talent, and technological advantages of the Chinese Pharmaceutical Association with Taizhou’s pharmaceutical industrial strengths, the two parties aim to form a powerful alliance and accelerate the high-quality development of Jiangsu Province’s pharmaceutical industry.

Zhu Lifan stated that the hosting of previous Medical Expo events has not only witnessed the vigorous development of the pharmaceutical industry but also boosted the construction of Taizhou as a “Famous City of Health and Happiness.” On the fertile ground of China Medical City, stories of innovation and entrepreneurship have unfolded one after another, with vivid and dynamic scenes fully enacted, jointly painting a picture of rapid progress and daily renewal. Here, there are successful examples of individuals starting businesses with just a bag in hand, lively cases of teams tackling key R&D challenges, and inspiring stories of overseas-returnee PhDs, dual-innovation talents, scientific researchers, and university graduates taking root in Taizhou and realizing their dreams.

At the opening ceremony, Xiao Yuan, Deputy Director of Peking University Health Science Center, and Ye Donghua, Secretary of the Party Working Committee of Taizhou Medical High-tech Zone and Secretary of the Gaogang District Committee, jointly unveiled the plaque for the “Peking University Health Science Center (Taizhou) Pharmaceutical and Health Industry Innovation Center.” This is the first off-campus collaborative entity established by Peking University Health Science Center. By promoting the construction of scientific and technological platforms and building a full-chain innovation system, it strives to transform Taizhou into a new global highland for innovative development in the biomedical industry with enhanced core competitiveness.
Inauguration Ceremony of the Listed Companies Alliance of China Medical City
At the opening ceremony, the “China Medical City Listed Companies Alliance” was officially established. Co-led and initiated by Taizhou Mabo Taike Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd. and Jiangsu Shuoshi Biotechnology Co., Ltd., the alliance brings together 15 listed and pre-IPO companies. It aims to leverage the collective strengths of listed and pre-IPO enterprises in China Medical City, foster and expand the “China Medical City Segment” in the capital market, drive the development of the biopharmaceutical industry, and provide robust support for the early realization of China Medical City’s vision to become “China’s leading and globally renowned pharmaceutical hub.”
Prior to the opening ceremony, attending leaders and guests also toured the exhibitions and displays associated with the Medical Expo.
