By the end of 2020, the total number of assisted reproductive technology (ART) service cycles in China reached 1.303 million, with a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 15% from 2016 to 2020. Currently, there are 517 medical institutions in China approved to provide ART services. Based on the total number of ART service cycles in 2020, the average number of service cycles per institution exceeded 2,600. At present, 9.6 million couples suffering from infertility require ART services, bringing the total market demand for assisted reproductive technology to RMB 434.1 billion.

Upstream medical devices in the assisted reproductive technology (ART) industry chain primarily include ART consumables (such as embryo freezing/thawing media, embryo culture media, etc.) and specialized instruments. In terms of overall market share, 95% of high-value ART consumable devices rely on imports, with embryo culture media being monopolized by foreign brands; no domestically approved products have yet been launched on the market.

Yin Hang, Co-founder and General Manager of Dongyun Medical, stated, “Dongyun Medical is a supplier in China that independently develops and innovates, providing a full suite of domestically produced embryo culture media as well as reagents for oocyte and sperm processing. Our products integrate years of research findings and clinical experience from scientists, physicians, and embryologists, ideally replicating the natural growth environment of embryos.” Dongyun Medical has established a comprehensive production and quality control management system for embryo culture media and micromanipulation products. The company has built an integrated facility for production, testing, and R&D, which includes high-standard clean production workshops, automated production lines, quality control workshops, cold-chain storage, and R&D laboratories.

In addition to leveraging its own business strengths to explore new solutions, Esco actively collaborates with local innovative enterprises to lead trends in healthcare.

“In the future, Esco will join hands with Dongyun Medical to comprehensively promote the full range of upstream products for assisted reproductive technology (ART). The two parties will deeply integrate advanced technological and market resources both domestically and internationally, accelerating the localization of ART-related products, as well as reagents and consumables for ART laboratories. We believe this collaboration will deliver more comprehensive solutions to the ART market, meeting the growing demand in China and globally, and contributing to the cause of eugenics and healthy childbirth,” said Lin Xiangqian, Chairman and CEO of Esco.
