Recently, Guangzhou Zhongjian Yunkang Network Technology Co., Ltd. (“Zhongjian Yunkang”) announced the completion of its Series A+ financing round, raising tens of millions of RMB. This round was exclusively invested by Sinowood Capital. Previously, the company had secured equity investments totaling tens of millions of RMB from BGI Genomics and Matrix Partners China. The Zhongjian Yunkang team will collaborate with listed companies in the healthcare industry and top-tier venture capital firms to build a leading domestic full-lifecycle medical cold-chain service platform.

Zhongjian Yunkang was established in 2018. In just three years, it has grown into one of the enterprises with the most extensive urban coverage in China’s medical cold chain sector, evolving into a comprehensive provider of medical cold chain solutions equipped with an intelligent management system, a medical cold chain logistics network, and a healthcare service platform. To date, the company has built an operations team of over 2,000 personnel, with its logistics network covering more than 600 cities. Currently, Zhongjian Yunkang is one of the largest specialized third-party medical cold chain logistics providers in China’s Independent Clinical Laboratory (ICL) market. Adhering to the business model of “technology empowerment + lean management,” Zhongjian Yunkang creates “intelligent,” “visualized,” and “customized” flexible solutions for healthcare industry clients, delivering door-to-door supply chain services that span from “logistics” to “information flow” and even “operations,” as well as from domestic to international markets. Its client base includes third-party clinical testing laboratories, biopharmaceutical companies, and in vitro diagnostic (IVD) enterprises. The company has successfully addressed industry challenges such as fragmented operations, constant-temperature cold chain management, and rapid-response orders, thereby taking a leading position in the highly demanding ICL segment of the medical cold chain market and earning widespread industry recognition for its operational capabilities.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, Zhongjian Yunkang undertook large-scale collection and transportation of COVID-19 samples, cumulatively transporting over 40 million specimens, thereby safeguarding China’s epidemic prevention and control efforts. Furthermore, Zhongjian Yunkang will collaborate overseas with BGI Genomics’ comprehensive COVID-19 testing solution (“Fire Eye” Laboratory) to replicate its mature domestic medical cold-chain logistics model abroad, with overseas revenue expected to become the company’s next new growth engine.

In addition to providing cold chain logistics transportation services, Zhongjian Yunkang offers industry clients flexible cold chain logistics solutions that integrate intelligent hardware and software, feature full-chain IoT temperature control, and provide one-stop customization. The company has established a robust informatics team to develop customized logistics management systems, warehouse management systems, and other information management platforms tailored to client needs. Leveraging a SaaS service platform, Zhongjian Yunkang connects customers, suppliers, and logistics delivery personnel. It enables real-time, accurate monitoring of the entire supply chain, including individual nodes and processes, based on data analytics. By analyzing process data, the company enhances overall operational efficiency, delivering safe, fast, and reliable cold chain logistics services. This helps customers improve supply chain service satisfaction, refine their management capabilities, and reduce logistics costs.

China’s foundation in the medical cold chain sector remains relatively weak. However, with the introduction and implementation of favorable national policies, along with growing demand for vaccine transportation, downstream biobanking, and hospital services in the post-pandemic era, the prospects for the medical cold chain logistics industry are promising. In light of this, many major capital players have entered the medical cold chain logistics market, accelerating their strategic layout and enhancing the closed-loop medical ecosystem. Zhongjian Yunkang has garnered favor from numerous investment institutions by leveraging its logistics team with a strong medical background, independently developed end-to-end IoT temperature control technology solutions, a highly comprehensive logistics network covering both national and county levels, and a fully digitalized standard operational system.

Luo Fei, Founding Partner of Shunwei Capital, stated: “In recent years, China’s pharmaceutical cold chain industry has developed rapidly. However, the sector remains in its early stages, characterized by uneven quality in cold chain logistics and supply chain services, as well as highly diverse customer needs, presenting significant market opportunities. The core team of Zhongjian Yunkang has deep expertise in the healthcare and supply chain sectors, bringing extensive management experience. By establishing door-to-door, cold-chain-enabled, intelligent, visible, and customized flexible supply chain solutions, the company has rapidly built China’s first nationwide pharmaceutical cold chain logistics network and healthcare service platform extending to county-level cities. Over the past few years, the company has achieved explosive performance with robust multi-fold growth, quickly emerging as the largest third-party medical cold chain logistics provider in China’s independent clinical laboratory (ICL) market. By continuously building strong competitive barriers and completing its nationwide logistics network layout, the company is poised to further enhance service quality and reduce logistics costs through economies of scale. We look forward to Zhongjian Yunkang becoming a leading enterprise in biological sample logistics in China, better and more extensively serving innovative companies in the Chinese biopharmaceutical industry.”

Zhou Wei, Investment Director at Matrix Partners China, stated, “Zhongjian Yunkang represents a strategic investment for us in the new supply chain sector. With the robust growth of life sciences, biopharmaceuticals, and medical testing services, there is immense market potential in medical cold-chain logistics and extended supply chain solutions. We are optimistic that this high-quality incremental market will give rise to new infrastructure-level opportunities. The Zhongjian Yunkang team has deep expertise in the medical cold-chain and supply chain service industry, with a clear strategy and strong execution capabilities. We look forward to the team continuing to safeguard medical clients, deliver value with precision, and consistently support the upgrading and development of the healthcare industry.”

Zhao Lijian, CEO of BGI Genomics Co., Ltd., stated, “The importance of the pharmaceutical cold chain supply chain as a fundamental infrastructure in the healthcare industry is self-evident. In light of business needs and strategic layout considerations, BGI Genomics began researching China’s cold chain logistics market at a very early stage. However, it was regrettable that no professional third-party pharmaceutical cold chain service providers with a high degree of fit could be found. This led us to consider jointly supporting and establishing a specialized third-party pharmaceutical cold chain service provider. Consequently, in 2019, BGI Genomics identified the founder of Zhongjian Yunkang and made a strategic investment during the company’s angel financing round. Today, Zhongjian Yunkang has become an outstanding supply chain service provider within the BGI Group ecosystem. Looking ahead, both parties will continue to strengthen their collaboration globally, leveraging Zhongjian Yunkang’s exceptional logistics and supply chain capabilities to safeguard BGI Genomics’ global medical services.”

Yang Yanjun, General Manager of Zhongjian Yunkang, stated: “Zhongjian Yunkang will continue to invest in the pharmaceutical sector, extending its core competitive advantages into related niche areas such as biotechnology, cell therapy, and innovative drugs, while actively expanding other innovative businesses to diversify company revenue. With strong support from shareholders, the company is comprehensively expanding and refining its global warehousing and distribution network, continuously upgrading its intelligent operations platform, fully optimizing investments in supply chain and hardware/software technologies, and strengthening talent pipeline development, thereby further enhancing competitive barriers and sustainable development capabilities. We believe that within the next few years, we will establish our leading position in medical cold-chain logistics.”
