Discovering Visionaries of Future Healthcare Innovation: 'China Smart Diagnostics Medical Ranking' Enters Selection Phase

Dec 03, 2021 17:04 CST Updated 17:04
2021 marked both the inaugural year of the 14th Five-Year Plan and the new starting point for the “golden decade” of the Healthy China 2030 strategy. Against this backdrop, determining how the medical industry can identify a development path toward high-quality innovation in the future has become a shared endeavor across the entire sector.

As early as 2020, the Science and Technology Commission of Baoshan District issued a document to establish the “Baoshan District R&D and Translation Functional Platform for Intelligent Diagnostic Medicine,” aiming to facilitate the research, development, and translation of intelligent healthcare technologies and products, build a service platform for the industrialization of medical technological achievements, and promote industrial transformation and upgrading. As a bridge connecting industry and academia, the platform assumes critical responsibilities in driving industrial technological innovation, facilitating technology spillovers, and fostering enterprise incubation.

Today, R&D and translation functional platforms have become the testing ground for Shanghai’s scientific and technological system innovation. Their functional positioning includes three areas of support—supporting industrial chain innovation, supporting the research, development, and commercialization of major products, and supporting innovation and entrepreneurship. Baoshan District’s solid industrial foundation and vast industrial space have formed a functional layout of “core platforms + science and technology innovation parks,” building an ecosystem and service functions covering the entire industrial chain for the development of the intelligent diagnostics industry cluster.

Guided by the Shanghai Baoshan District Science and Technology Commission and the Administrative Committee of Shanghai Baoshan High-Tech Industrial Park, and hosted by the Baoshan Smart Diagnostic Medicine R&D and Translation Functional Platform and VCBeat VB100, with HistoMed N-Media as the organizer, the “2021 China Smart Diagnostic Medicine List” has entered the selection phase. Aimed at witnessing the trajectory of era-defining changes and uncovering exemplary forces, this list seeks to identify a cohort of industry pioneers and benchmarks in China’s smart diagnostics sector—those who have taken the lead, broken through barriers to drive change, and achieved innovative growth.

This year’s rankings will select the Top 10 in High-End Medical Imaging Equipment, the Top 10 in Digital Intelligent Computer-Aided Diagnosis, and the Top 10 in Innovative In Vitro Diagnostics—High-Throughput Sequencing. The evaluation will primarily consider the annual performance of participating companies across several dimensions, including R&D team composition, R&D investment, R&D methodologies, areas of focus, progress of products under development, market performance of launched products, and clinical application practices.

As of November 30, a total of 221 companies had registered to participate in the evaluation. The final list of honored companies will be jointly selected by an expert review panel, comprising Professor Ding Xianting from the School of Biomedical Engineering at Shanghai Jiao Tong University and Dr. Yi Xianghua, Second Council Member of the Shanghai Medical Doctor Association and Director of the Department of Pathology at Tongji Hospital, as well as an industry review panel consisting of CDH Investments, Yuanyi Capital, Detong Capital, Qiaokang Capital, and Hengqin Financial Investment Group. This dual-panel approach aims to ensure a more comprehensive, accurate, and authoritative selection for the “2021 China Smart Diagnostic Medicine List.”

On January 9, 2022, the “Forum on the Translation of Smart Diagnostic Achievements and Industrial Innovation” will be held in Baoshan District, Shanghai. At the forum, the “2021 China Smart Diagnostic Medicine List” will be officially unveiled. Three sub-sector rankings within the smart diagnostics field will be released, and awards will be presented to the listed companies. Adopting the format of “one evaluation, one list, and one conference,” the event will facilitate in-depth sharing from multiple dimensions and perspectives—including policy, technology, market, and capital—to jointly explore industry development and collaboration.

Conference Agenda

Meanwhile, the conference will also focus on the digital transformation of the smart diagnostics industry and technological innovation, inviting academicians, scientific research experts, hospital directors, clinical specialists, and leaders from innovative enterprises to discuss development trends, the evolution of frontier technologies, AI-assisted diagnosis, tumor immunotherapy and diagnostics, pathological pharmaceutical R&D, and the localization of in vitro diagnostics.

Thereafter, the “Forum on the Translation of Smart Diagnostic Achievements and Industrial Innovation” will be held annually in Baoshan District, Shanghai, concurrently with the release of the “China Smart Diagnostic Medicine List,” to promote the continuous development of China’s smart diagnostics industry and drive the innovative integration of industry, academia, research, and application across the entire smart diagnostics value chain.
