On December 7, the results of the “6th Batch of Trusted Selection for Internet Healthcare” conducted by the Internet Healthcare Industry Alliance were announced at the “5G + Medical Health Forum” of the “2021 IMT-2020 (5G) Conference.” Four products from the digital healthcare platform WeDoctor—namely, the WeDoctor Online Appointment Registration System, the WeDoctor Online Consultation System, the WeDoctor Internet Healthcare Electronic Medical Record System, and WeDoctor Cloud PACS—successfully passed the trusted selection evaluations for mobile health apps, telemedicine products, and medical cloud computing.

The Internet Medical and Health Industry Alliance was jointly established under the leadership of the Medical Management Service Guidance Center of the National Health Commission and the China Academy of Information and Communications Technology. The Alliance conducts the “Trusted Selection for Internet Medical and Health” evaluation, aiming to guide the orderly development of the internet medical and health industry, establish and improve a trust system between supply and demand parties, and promote the continuous maturation of internet medical products. Related products and applications from Tencent Cloud, China Mobile, China Telecom, and other enterprises were also recognized in this evaluation.

It is reported that the Alliance has successively released 12 industry standards and 39 alliance group standards, covering areas such as medical cloud computing, medical big data, telemedicine, and mobile health apps, while also conducting trusted assessments of standard compliance. Following the release of the results for the sixth batch of trusted selection assessments for internet-based medical healthcare, the Alliance will compile a catalog of outstanding products and recommend it to relevant ministries and industry associations, thereby building opportunities and bridges for win-win cooperation among service providers, government entities, and healthcare industry users.

In recent years, China’s internet healthcare industry has experienced explosive growth. However, due to the unique nature of the healthcare sector, there is a lack of established criteria and methods for assessing the safety, reliability, and stability of internet healthcare services. In 2020, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT), in conjunction with the National Health Commission (NHC), issued the “Notice on Further Strengthening the Construction of Telemedicine Network Capabilities,” which called for improving the evaluation system for medical cloud computing and medical big data service capabilities, thereby ensuring compliance and trustworthiness throughout the entire lifecycle of medical cloud computing resources and medical big data assets.

As a leading digital healthcare enterprise, WeDoctor has made continuous investments in research and development innovation in fields such as big data, artificial intelligence, and smart IoT, which in turn has strengthened its business innovation drive. For instance, WeDoctor has established a medical tag library comprising nine major categories with over 840,000 tags, enabling precise matching of patient and physician needs through relationship engines and knowledge graphs. The fundus lesion auxiliary diagnosis system provided by WeDoctor achieves a specificity of 98.8% and a sensitivity of 85.3% for the binary classification of diabetic retinopathy. WeDoctor’s Clinical Decision Support System (CDSS) covers more than 300 common diseases and includes detailed diagnostic and treatment recommendations for 26 chronic conditions. Combined with its self-developed medical terminal and equipment products, such as cloud mobile clinics and cloud diagnostic kits, this system effectively enhances the diagnostic and treatment capabilities of primary healthcare institutions and expands the accessibility of medical services.

Recently, media reports have indicated that WeDoctor has upgraded its business segments by integrating its various business units, capability modules, and regional operations to establish four core business hubs centered on “Medical Care, Pharmaceuticals, Insurance, and Data.” The “Data” component specifically refers to WeDoctor’s digital healthcare infrastructure, forming a comprehensive digital capability system that combines software and hardware, including internet hospital development, intelligent health insurance supervision, digital chronic disease management systems, and smart terminals. Leveraging this digital infrastructure, WeDoctor is implementing “Digital Health Communities” in regions such as Tianjin and Shandong. These initiatives create performance-based digital health stewardship organizations that alleviate pressure on large hospitals, enhance the capabilities of primary care institutions, and improve the efficiency of both public health insurance and commercial insurance payments, ultimately delivering high-quality and efficient medical and health services to the public.

The recognition of four products as “Trusted Selections” will enable WeDoctor to better provide users with efficient, secure, and compliant healthcare services. A representative from WeDoctor stated that, guided by national top-level design, the company will fully leverage digital tools to build a Chinese-style health stewardship organization, continuously improving the accessibility, effectiveness, and affordability of medical services, while jointly promoting the compliant, orderly, and sustainable development of the industry.
