In the era of digital health, the deep integration of new technologies with the healthcare industry has ushered in a golden age, thoroughly igniting investment enthusiasm in the medical market.

 

On December 10, the “Born to Innovate·Aim High – The 1st Siemens Healthineers Shanghai Innovation Center Innovation and Entrepreneurship Competition 2021,” focusing on hot medical sectors in the era of new technology, kicked off as scheduled in Zhangjiang, Shanghai. Empowering healthcare with innovation, and infusing technology with warmth.

 

This event was meticulously organized by the Siemens Healthineers Shanghai Innovation Center, aiming to better identify high-potential projects in the medical technology sector, accelerate the innovation and entrepreneurial pace of startups, and strengthen the development of the local digital health ecosystem. The judging panel included Mr. Wang Haijiao, Executive Partner at GTJA Capital; Mr. Zhou Xuan, Executive Director at Sinopharm Capital; Ms. Liu Wang Huizi, Investment Director at VenturePlus Fund; Mr. Gu Jiefeng, Deputy General Manager of Zhangke Herun; and Mr. Liu Pengfei, Risk Technology Manager at Siemens Healthineers. Representatives from 15 high-quality startup projects deeply engaged in the pharmaceutical and medical technology field attended the event.

At the outset of the competition, Jiang Tao, Assistant General Manager of Shanghai Zhangjiang Technology Venture Capital Co., Ltd. and General Manager of the Zhangjiang Pharma Valley Platform, noted that Zhangjiang boasts one of the few globally recognized innovation ecosystems. It enjoys distinct advantages, including leading-edge R&D capabilities, significant industrial clustering effects, and a self-contained system of innovation platforms. Zhangjiang has established complete industrial and innovation chains in fields such as biopharmaceuticals and medical devices. Leading global healthcare companies and innovative enterprises have congregated in Zhangjiang, alongside numerous national- and municipal-level public innovation service platforms. In recent years, Zhangjiang Group has collaborated with multiple multinational corporations to co-establish open innovation centers, achieving rapid development from global aggregation to innovation leadership. This has resulted in the creation of a globally renowned innovation cluster for biotechnology and pharmaceutical industries. Roadshow: The Moment to Accelerate Your Dreams

 

Following preliminary screening and exchanges, 17 high-quality startup projects deeply rooted in the pharmaceutical technology sector emerged from over 50 companies to advance to the final pitch session. Due to pandemic control requirements, 15 of these companies presented on-site. Their presentations covered a range of pharmaceutical technology areas, including medical imaging products and solutions, image-guided surgical solutions, in vitro diagnostics (such as biochemistry, immunology, and POCT), digital pathology products and solutions (focused on oncology and other areas), radiotherapy-related products and solutions, and surgical robot solutions (for cardiovascular procedures, biopsies, etc.). Notably, all selected projects are high-caliber enterprises that possess core technologies and hold relevant patents.

Over the course of nearly three hours, representatives from 15 projects sequentially presented detailed insights into their respective technical advantages, market prospects, team composition, and financing plans. During the roadshow, the entrepreneurs demonstrated unique passion and confidence, as a tidal wave of digital innovation surged forward, bringing about a seamless integration and exciting convergence of technology and healthcare.

 

Meanwhile, leveraging their extensive industry experience and resource networks, the panel of experts conducted structured assessments and scoring of each project across multiple dimensions, including technological advancement, innovation, industry pain points, business models, financial status, and financing needs. They also provided professional commentary and targeted recommendations, taking into account the potential opportunities and challenges facing the enterprises.
