From January 8 to 9, 2022, the 7th So-Young Asia-Pacific Aesthetic Medicine Awards Ceremony, hailed as the “Oscars” of the medical aesthetics industry, will be held in Sanya. Following previous themes such as “Industry Transformation,” “Openness,” “Insights,” “Five Years of Medical Aesthetics,” and “Momentum Building,” the 7th edition will center on the theme “New Medical Aesthetics,” exploring new breakthroughs in the development of medical aesthetics in the new economic era. Meanwhile, the 3rd “China Medical Aesthetics Feixiang Awards – Annual Technological Breakthrough Award” will be announced at the ceremony.
In 2021, as COVID-19 prevention and control measures became normalized, consumption of medical aesthetic services gradually recovered, demonstrating robust growth. According to the “2021 White Paper on the Medical Aesthetics Industry,” China’s medical aesthetics market size was projected to reach RMB 184.6 billion in 2021, returning to a growth trajectory exceeding 20%. Meanwhile, tightening regulatory oversight has driven the industry’s transformation and upgrading from extensive to refined development models. As China’s medical aesthetics sector enters a new stage of development, it will rely more heavily on innovations in products, technologies, and service models, giving rise to the concept of “New Medical Aesthetics.”
In response, Cai Rui, Senior Vice President of So-Young Technology, stated, “Ordinary aesthetic seekers often overlook the medical nature of aesthetic medicine, which has, to some extent, fostered a development model in which medical institutions prioritize marketing. So-Young aims to leverage its technological advantages as an internet platform to break down entrenched information barriers, enable consumers to develop a rational understanding of aesthetic medicine consumption, and ensure that the value of physicians is recognized. Only in this way can the industry restore integrity, and will medical institutions channel resources into enhancing physicians’ technical expertise.” This is precisely the original intention behind So-Young’s establishment of the “So-Young Aesthetic Medicine Flying Award – Annual Technical Breakthrough Award.”
It is reported that a record-breaking 148 young physicians applied for the “China Medical Aesthetics Flying Award · Annual Technological Breakthrough Award” in its third edition. Ultimately, Liao Yunjun, Chen Gang, Wang Zhenxiang, Wang Haiping, and Li Jialun were shortlisted for the Flying Award, leveraging their leading technological innovations in their respective fields. They will present their projects at the gala ceremony to compete for the Third Flying Award, including: “Breast Reconstruction Using Large-Volume Optimized Adipose Components,” “Biomimetic Double Eyelid Surgery Based on Physiological Anatomical Structures,” “Clinical Research on Facial Bone Contouring in Asians,” “Kiss Blepharoplasty: A Stable Minimal-Scarring Double Eyelid Procedure,” and “Application of Purified Exosome Products Enriched with TGF-beta to Promote Healing of Ischemic Wounds.”
It is worth noting that the expert jury for the Flying Award consisted of eight industry authorities, including Professor Gao Jianhua, former President of the Aesthetic and Plastic Surgery Branch of the Chinese Medical Doctor Association; Professor Cao Yilin, Chairman of the Plastic and Aesthetic Surgery Branch of the China Non-Public Medical Institutions Association; Professor Li Shirong, Chairman of the Medical Aesthetics and Cosmetology Branch of the Chinese Medical Association; Professor Luan Jie, Chairman of the Plastic Surgery Branch of the Chinese Medical Association; Professor Jiang Hua, President of the Aesthetic and Plastic Surgery Branch of the Chinese Medical Doctor Association; Professor Song Jianxing, Vice President of the Aesthetic and Plastic Surgeons Branch of the Chinese Medical Doctor Association; Professor Sun Jiaming, Vice Chairman of the Plastic Surgery Branch of the Chinese Medical Association; and Professor Guo Shuzhong, former Chairman of the Plastic Surgery Branch of the Chinese Medical Association.
The selection criteria will continue to follow the established framework, comprising four dimensions: advancement, scientific rigor, practicality, and safety. Each dimension is further subdivided into multiple assessment indicators, such as industry influence and social value. The jury will score each candidate, and the final selections will be determined based on the comprehensive scores.
In the future, with the annual hosting of the “Oscars” of the medical aesthetics industry and the yearly presentation of its “Nobel Prize,” an increasing number of outstanding physicians and innovative technologies will step into the spotlight and gain public visibility. This will coalesce into a powerful force, propelling the medical aesthetics industry into a new phase and continuously redefining the concept of “New Medical Aesthetics.”
