On April 9, the 21st Century Business Herald reported that Beijing Advanced Medical Technologies Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as "AMT Medical Inc.") completed a D-round financing of over 200 million yuan.

This round of financing was led by Zhejiang Synergistic Life Health Fund, with participation from Henan Key Intellectual Property Fund, Global Hedge Fund Management Co., Ltd., and other institutions. The funds will be used to accelerate the research and development of core products, global market promotion, and international strategic layout.

AMT Medical Inc. was founded in 2011. The company utilizes its proprietary 3D multi-axis precision printing platform technology to simultaneously address key diagnostic bottlenecks (non-nephrotoxic contrast) and treatment pain points (permanent metal implants) in the diagnosis and treatment of vascular diseases, constructing a closed-loop solution from precise diagnosis to innovative treatment.

Notably, recently, an important strategic product of AMT Medical Inc. in the field of angiographic diagnosis —— Starfall® Jetfall® Carbon Dioxide Contrast Pressure Injection Set (referred to as "Carbon Dioxide Contrast Device") has been officially approved by the National Medical Products Administration, becoming the first Class III CO2 contrast injection product in China. It can provide essential solutions for high-risk patients with renal insufficiency, iodinated contrast media allergy, and hyperthyroidism.

It is reported that the AMT Medical Inc. carbon dioxide contrast device has entered the National Medical Products Administration (NMPA).Innovative MedicalThe product in the device review channel received support from institutions such as the Center for Medical Device Evaluation of the National Medical Products Administration and the Beijing Municipal Medical Products Administration throughout the entire registration application process. Relevant departments assigned dedicated personnel to provide one-on-one answers to issues encountered by the company during the application, enabling the product to obtain its registration certificate in just nine months from the application acceptance to final approval. This efficient review and approval process reflects the encouragement and substantive support of national regulatory authorities for domestic medical device companies' independent research and innovative products.

Previously, the product was launched overseas in 2025 after obtaining EU CE certification and has been approved for sale in more than 20 countries and regions worldwide, including the United States, the European Union, the United Kingdom, Brazil, Turkey, Israel, and the Middle East. Additionally, three products from AMT Medical Inc. have entered the "green channel" for China's Innovative Medical Device Approval Process.

"With the financing funds in place, and the official approval and accelerated commercialization of the carbon dioxide contrast device, the company will gain considerable cash flow. In the future, we will increase R&D investment and accelerate the construction of a full-stack platform for 'diagnosis + treatment' in pan-vascular intervention," said Dr. Liu Qing, founder of AMT Medical Inc., to the 21st Century Business Herald.

Liu Qing pointed out that in the future, the company will focus on two core areas: first, seizing the policy window period for innovative medical devices in China, rapidly promoting the comprehensive peripheral solution, centered around bioresorbable peripheral stents and carbon dioxide contrast devices, to enter more hospitals, enabling patients in China to access domestically produced innovative devices of international leading standards;

Secondly, continue to build a technical and academic highland, deepen cooperation with top clinical centers such as Beijing Anzhen Hospital affiliated with Capital Medical University, the Chinese PLA Medical School and the Chinese PLA General Hospital (301 Hospital), and Zhongshan Hospital affiliated with Fudan University, establish a CO₂ angiography technology clinical training base, and promote the standardization and internationalization of vascular disease diagnosis and treatment technology in China.

Industry Pioneers Embark on the Path of Entrepreneurship in China-Produced Medical Devices

Liu Qing is a pioneer in the medical device field and also a serial entrepreneur. With over 25 years of experience in biomaterials and device development, he specializes in the research, development, and commercialization of medical devices.

It is reported that at the earliest time, Liu Qing served as the R&D Director at Celgene (a global leading biopharmaceutical company) in the United States. Later, Liu Qing founded 3D Biotek in the U.S., utilizing 3D printing technology for stem cell organoid cultivation. Currently, 3D Biotek is still in normal operation, and Liu Qing has successfully exited.

In 2008, inspired by the Beijing Investment Promotion Bureau's overseas investment attraction team, Liu Qing decided to return to China for development. The successful experience from his first venture, combined with his expertise in 3D printing technology, paved the way for his second entrepreneurial journey. In 2011, he officially founded AMT Medical Inc.

In the team formed by Liu Qing, the core members all have management and R&D experience in multinational medical device companies. For instance, the company's chief scientist, Dr. Zhao Qinghong, has served as a biomaterials expert and senior scientist at Medtronic and Synovis in the U.S., and has also been involved in the development of biodegradable stents at Abbott Laboratories in the United States.

After 15 years of development, AMT Medical Inc. has built a comprehensive product portfolio centered around its proprietary 3D printing technology platform, covering both vascular and non-vascular interventional fields. The company has overcome international patent barriers to achieve the domestic production of bioresorbable scaffolds with superior performance. Meanwhile, it has formed a synergistic layout of "resorbable scaffolds + innovative imaging + multi-field applications," spanning high-growth sectors such as coronary, peripheral, neurology, and gastrointestinal interventions.

Notably, the carbon dioxide contrast device developed by AMT Medical Inc. has achieved several global technological firsts. Following its recent approval in China, the product will see an acceleration in commercialization and has already entered the international mainstream market.

It is reported that this product can be used for non-nephrotoxic contrast imaging in renal arteries, iliac arteries, lower limb arteries, forearm veins, inferior vena cava, and iliac veins. Speaking about the innovation of the product, Liu Qing explained to the 21st Century Business Herald that angiography is an indispensable core technology for the diagnosis of vascular diseases and interventional therapy. However, iodinated contrast agents have long been the mainstream contrast medium, and their application has obvious limitations, which has become a difficult problem in clinical practice.

For example, a certain proportion of patients are allergic to iodinated contrast agents. For patients with risk factors such as renal insufficiency, diabetes, heart failure, old age, and anemia, iodinated contrast agents are an important cause of contrast-induced acute kidney injury or contrast-induced nephropathy.

Therefore, finding a safe and effective alternative contrast solution for patients with contraindications to iodinated contrast agents and high-risk populations has become a major clinical issue that urgently needs to be addressed. Carbon dioxide angiography has emerged as a promising technological direction. Abroad, carbon dioxide has already become the primary alternative for vascular imaging in patients with renal insufficiency.

It is worth noting that, although carbon dioxide has been used as an intravascular contrast agent for more than 70 years, there are high requirements for the devices used to store and inject carbon dioxide. The Chinese market has long lacked such products. The emergence of AMT Medical Inc.'s carbon dioxide contrast device fills this market gap in China and broadens the range of patients suitable for vascular imaging.

In terms of potential market size, according to Frost & Sullivan data, globally, the number of people requiring angiography in peripheral arteries will increase from 289 million in 2021 to 372 million in 2030, with a compound annual growth rate of approximately 2.8%.

In the Chinese market, it is estimated that by 2026, the number of surgeries requiring angiography in peripheral and aortic areas will reach 1.06 million cases. Studies have shown that the proportion of chronic kidney disease (CKD) patients in peripheral interventional surgeries is as high as 67%. Based on this rough estimate, the potential domestic market size for this product is in the billions.

Investors Value Team's Technological Innovation and Global Capabilities

In addition to the carbon dioxide contrast device that has already entered the fast lane of commercialization, AMT Medical Inc.'s product portfolio also includes implantable and interventional products covering peripheral, coronary, gastrointestinal, and other pan-vascular fields, which will have significant commercial potential upon future regulatory approval and market launch.

Liu Qing told the reporter that enabling products to be biodegradable based on 3D printing technology is one of the core advantages of the team's products. Taking the biodegradable coronary stent product as an example, in the medical device industry, coronary stents are the largest single-category product. Targeting coronary artery stenosis or occlusive diseases such as coronary heart disease and myocardial infarction, coronary stents are mainly used for percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI). Currently, more than 2 million coronary stents are used annually in China.

But clinically, coronary stents widely used are mainly made of metal materials. Although they can effectively prop open blood vessels and restore blood flow, the permanent retention of foreign objects in the body brings a lot of inconvenience and risks. For example, patients face the burden of lifelong medication, and stent-induced intimal hyperplasia may lead to vascular restenosis.

Based on the aforementioned pain points, biodegradable vascular stents have become an important innovative direction. "After metal stents remain in the body for 10 to 20 years, complications gradually appear. The value of biodegradable stents lies in — providing support when the blood vessel needs it, and naturally degrading once the blood vessel has self-repaired, avoiding a series of problems brought by lifelong foreign objects," said Liu Qing.

At the same time, compared with competitive products in and outside China, the biodegradable vascular stents developed by AMT Medical Inc. based on 3D printing technology boast significant advantages such as a greatly simplified production process, high efficiency, low cost, and stable clinical performance. Currently, the company’s biodegradable coronary stents, peripheral stents, and other products have entered or completed clinical trial stages.

The technological product innovation and globalization capabilities of AMT Medical Inc. have become key attractions for investment institutions. Luo Yu, the investment director of Zhejiang Synergy Life Health Fund, the lead investor in this round of financing, stated that the core product of AMT Medical Inc., the carbon dioxide contrast device, has achieved its first overseas sales with unique advantages. This not only verifies its hardcore technical barriers but also demonstrates mature international commercial implementation capabilities. This marks that China's medical devices are moving from "scale catch-up" to a new phase of "value definition" and "global rule output."

More importantly, the investment team is optimistic about AMT Medical Inc.'s "diagnosis + treatment" full-stack platform strategy in the field of vascular intervention, which is built upon this experience. Its series of 3D-printed biodegradable stents have entered the critical stage of clinical trials or registration for market approval, representing the industry's evolution from "disease treatment" to "comprehensive health lifecycle management." This platform deeply integrates advanced imaging diagnostics with innovative interventional therapies, creating strong clinical synergies and ecosystem competitiveness.

"We believe that this round of financing will accelerate the formation of this strategic closed loop, helping AMT Medical Inc. become a global leader in the field of vascular intervention, bringing more China-originated solutions to patients worldwide, and leading the industry from China production substitution towards global value creation," said Luo Yu.
