In May 2022, Weimu Medical completed a Pre-A financing round of tens of millions of RMB, exclusively invested by IDG Capital. Completing two rounds of financing within just six months demonstrates that Weimu’s product development capabilities have gained strong recognition from investment institutions. As a company only two years old, Weimu Medical, under the leadership of its founder, Dr. Xie Dang, has brought multiple serious medical products to clinical use, including varicose vein closure adhesive and drug-loaded tumor embolization microspheres. Currently, Weimu’s venous adhesive product has completed enrollment of all clinical trial patients and is expected to become the first to receive regulatory approval in China. Clinical trials for its tumor microsphere product are also advancing rapidly.
In the field of medical aesthetics, Weimu has also launched its own "youth-restoring injection" microsphere product, making a strong push into the vast blue ocean market of regenerative medical aesthetics. Medical aesthetic microspheres containing poly-L-lactic acid (PLLA) are a type of regenerative injectable. Compared with conventional injectable medical aesthetic products (such as hyaluronic acid injections), they not only provide immediate short-term filling effects but also continuously stimulate the body’s own collagen synthesis, thereby achieving long-term volumizing results.
Currently, all domestically marketed "Tongyan Zhen" (collagen-stimulating injectable) products were approved in 2021, namely Changchun Shengboma’s “Aivilan” and Imeik’s “Rubaishitian.” Weimu’s Tongyan Zhen product leverages proprietary microsphere technology, with design and optimization focused on product performance, safety, and target population. It features advantages such as regular morphology, good dispersion, high biocompatibility, and the use of purely natural cross-linking agents. The degradation products of the microspheres can be completely metabolized and absorbed by the human body, resulting in minimal side effects and adverse reactions. The multicenter clinical trial for Weimu’s Tongyan Zhen is led by Professor Cui Haiyan from the Department of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery at Tongji Hospital, affiliated with Tongji University. The first subject was enrolled in late November last year, and the clinical trial is currently progressing vigorously. Weimu Medical has also entered into a strategic cooperation agreement with a leading giant in China’s beauty industry, enabling its future product portfolio to potentially leverage an extensive existing sales channel network in the medical aesthetics sector.
Regarding this round of financing, the Jiaxing Voyong Investment Partnership (L.P.) team stated, “We believe that the Shanghai Weimu Medical Technology Co., Ltd. team possesses a strong foundation in polymer materials and has unique insights into product design. Weimu’s ‘Tongyan Needle’ product is poised to become a blockbuster item in the regenerative medical aesthetics market. We look forward to working with the Weimu team to drive disruptive innovation in the medical aesthetics industry.”
Dr. Xie Dang, Founder of Weimu Medical, stated: “We extend our gratitude to both new and existing shareholders for their recognition of Weimu Medical. We will continue to adhere to an innovation-driven development strategy, delving deeply into the foundational technologies of biomedical materials. We also look forward to engaging in exchanges and collaboration with more professionals in the medical aesthetics industry, to create high-quality, trustworthy products for the vast number of beauty-seeking consumers in China.”
