On January 13, the Digestive Disease Academic Center of the Zhejiang Medical Association (hereinafter referred to as the “Zhejiang Digestive Center”) signed a cooperation agreement with Yuxianghu International Health City. The two parties will engage in in-depth collaboration focusing on early screening, early diagnosis, early treatment, and whole-process health management for digestive system diseases, jointly establishing a first-class domestic digestive disease specialty characterized by “endoscopic examination and minimally invasive therapy” and covering full-lifecycle health management.

This specialty will collaborate with leading experts in the field of gastroenterology, introduce advanced diagnostic equipment such as capsule endoscopy and high-definition endoscopy, and integrate leading minimally invasive techniques including Endoscopic Submucosal Dissection (ESD), Endoscopic Mucosal Resection (EMR), and endoscopic ultrasound-guided fine-needle aspiration. It aims to provide patients with various gastrointestinal diseases with a comprehensive, personalized health management solution covering pre-diagnosis, intra-diagnosis, and post-diagnosis stages.

The gastrointestinal (GI) tract is a long muscular tube extending from the oral cavity, pharynx, esophagus, and stomach to the small intestine, large intestine, and anal canal. Currently, digestive diseases are highly prevalent in China, with persistently high incidence and mortality rates for GI cancers such as esophageal cancer, gastric cancer, and colorectal cancer. To continuously improve the prevention and treatment of digestive diseases, the Zhejiang Provincial Digestive Disease Center and Yuxianghu International Health City have been actively exploring innovative service models to enhance the development of specialized gastroenterology services in recent years.

“The Zhejiang Provincial Center for Digestive Diseases has been actively engaged in academic exchanges, talent development, and scientific research in the field of gastroenterology. Establishing a specialized digestive disease department and accelerating the translation of cutting-edge research achievements—such as targeted monitoring of precancerous gastrointestinal lesions and techniques for blocking carcinogenesis—have long been the center’s core objectives,” stated Professor Si Jianmin, Director of the Zhejiang Provincial Center for Digestive Diseases and Director of the Institute of Gastroenterology at Zhejiang University, during the signing ceremony. He noted that the specialized digestive disease department would leverage Yuxianghu International Health City’s Future Hospital as the primary platform for translating research outcomes, focusing on two key areas: preventing digestive system aging and cancer, while continuously promoting the integrated development of prevention, diagnosis, treatment, and rehabilitation management for digestive tract diseases.

Fu Hanbing, President of Yuxianghu International Health City, stated that the collaboration with the Zhejiang Provincial Digestive Disease Center to establish a specialized gastroenterology department aims to leverage the strengths and complementary advantages of both parties. The goal is to build a first-class domestic specialty characterized by endoscopic examination and minimally invasive treatment, covering full-lifecycle health management. It will provide integrated, high-quality services including early screening for digestive system diseases, endoscopic minimally invasive surgical diagnosis and treatment, and comprehensive health management, enabling more patients to benefit from the health improvements brought by renowned experts and cutting-edge technologies.

“Taking this collaboration as a starting point, the Gastroenterology Specialty will integrate the strengths of both parties in big data, artificial intelligence, health management, discipline development, expert teams, and medical resources. We will actively explore innovative service models for gastroenterology, strengthen the core competencies of the specialty, and continuously meet the public’s demand for high-quality healthcare services,” said Professor Lv Bin, Deputy Director of the Zhejiang Provincial Center for Digestive Diseases. “We will join forces with top experts in the field of gastroenterology to enhance academic exchanges, advance discipline development, and promote the application of the latest scientific achievements and innovative technologies. These efforts will better support the initiatives of Healthy Zhejiang and Healthy China, and contribute to Zhejiang’s high-quality development as a demonstration zone for common prosperity.”

It is understood that the Zhejiang Provincial Digestive Center, established in 1994, is one of the oldest, most influential, and most impactful medical academic organizations in Zhejiang Province. As a leading one-stop professional health management platform in China, Yuxianghu International Health City has been committed to the translation and application of cutting-edge technologies, pursuing multidisciplinary development across four dimensions: “disease prevention, specialized disease treatment, anti-aging, and physical and mental wellness,” with a focus on creating lifecycle-wide health management services.

It is reported that Yuxianghu International Health City is the core application service platform under Sanjiang Health, and also a core model of the national pilot zone for the life and health industry—the China Hangzhou Xianghu International Life and Health Industry Collaborative Innovation Pilot Zone.

Currently, the Phase II Future Hospital of Yuxianghu International Health City, developed with an investment of RMB 300 million, is under construction. Centered on “biological therapy” as its core specialty, the hospital leverages cutting-edge technological advantages and integrated health management services to vigorously advance the development of seven key specialties, including gastroenterology. The jointly established gastroenterology department represents not only a crucial component of Yuxianghu International Health City’s specialty development but also a significant step forward in the construction of the Phase II Future Hospital.
